At the end of a steep valley in Galice, where schist breaks through beneath vines clinging to the mountainside, Virgen del Galir crafts high-altitude whites with a rare personality. Rooted in the century-old heritage of the CVNE group since 2017, this Valdeorras bodega gives a contemporary voice to an extreme terroir and a long-forgotten grape variety: godello.
Characterful whites born from the slopes of Valdeorras
Val do Galir Godello: the pure minerality of the Galir valley
Vinified in stainless steel tanks from the A Malosa vineyard, Val do Galir Godello offers a precise and radiant expression of its terroir. Saline tension, finely chiseled fruit, crystalline finish: this high-altitude godello reveals all the purity of Valdeorras.
Regueirón Godello: the beauty of a single-plot approach
Born from a confidential plot where godello roots deeply into schist, this cuvée reveals an entirely different dimension of the grape. Regueirón Godello comes from a more selective parcel, gaining depth, breadth, and aromatic complexity. A characterful white, crafted for lovers of precise, plot-driven wines.
Sede e Fame Palomino: the singularity of a forgotten grape variety
A chapter of its own within the range, Sede e Fame Palomino draws its character from a rare grape in Valdeorras: palomino. Hand pressing, spontaneous fermentation in clay amphorae and wooden barrels, 24 months of aging: the winemaking is uncompromising in its rigor. Saline and deep, the wine unfolds a enveloping texture, with notes of almond and balsamic nuances. An unclassifiable white, for curious enthusiasts.
A Galician estate rooted in the heritage of CVNE
Its history: from the Galir valley to the fold of a century-old house
Founded in 2002 by the Barros family in the village of Éntoma, Virgen del Galir was born from a bold ambition: to revive godello and establish Valdeorras among the great Spanish white wine appellations.
In 2017, the CVNE group, an institution founded in Haro in 1879, brought the estate into its fold, giving it the means to shine beyond Galician borders. The project has lost none of its roots: the bodega remains faithful to the human scale and identity that built its reputation.
Slate, altitude, and Roman terraces : an exceptional terroir
Perched at over 600 meters above sea level, the 40 hectares of vineyards occupy schist terraces inherited from Roman times, on slopes that sometimes reach 40%.
The soils, combining slate, clay, and granite, force the roots into a subterranean search for water and minerals, the source of vibrant minerality and natural tension.
The oceanic influence, rising through the Galir valley, tempers the days and preserves an essential freshness for the balance of the wines.
Its approach in the vineyard as in the cellar: artisanal precision and respect for place
Manual harvesting in small crates, controlled yields, winemaking tailored to each plot: Virgen del Galir’s philosophy can be summed up in one word—precision.
Stainless steel tanks preserve the purity of the fruit for the more accessible cuvées, while 500-liter barrels, large casks, and clay amphorae bring structure and depth to the terroir wines.
Every decision in the cellar serves a single goal: to faithfully express the imprint of the place.
