Located in the heart of Var, in Provence, Miraval is renowned for the elegance of its wines. The estate watches over a unique terroir and implements winemaking of great precision.
Location and vineyard area
Château Miraval is located in Correns, in Var, in the heart of Provence. The estate extends over approximately 600 hectares, including 30 hectares of organically farmed vines spread across two communes (Correns and Châteauvert), with two main appellations: Côtes de Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence. The estate also includes a vast pine forest, an olive grove, and preserved forests.
An inspiring history
The origins of Château Miraval date back to antiquity, with human presence documented from Roman times. The current château dates from the 17th century and has seen many illustrious owners pass through, including members of the nobility and artists. In the 20th century, Miraval became famous for its recording studio, founded in 1977 by Jacques Loussier, where Pink Floyd and Sting recorded.
In 2008, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie acquired the estate, before partnering in 2011 with the Perrin family, renowned winemakers from the Rhône, to manage wine production. This partnership marked a turning point in the reputation and quality of Miraval wines.
Everything you need to know about the terroir
Location and exposure
The estate benefits from a valley stretching nearly 4 km, at 350 meters altitude, offering a cool microclimate and ideal exposure for the vines.
Geology
The soils are predominantly clay-limestone, with dry stone terraces (restanques) that promote drainage and freshness retention, essential for grape balance.
Climate
The climate is Mediterranean, with hot and dry summers, cool nights, and strong luminosity, conducive to the maturity of Provençal grape varieties while preserving the acidity and freshness of the wines.
Cultural and sustainable practices
The vineyard is managed under certified organic agriculture, without herbicides or chemical pesticides. Natural grass cover, biodiversity (forests, olive trees, garrigue), and responsible water management are at the heart of the practices.
Miraval is a pioneer in organic viticulture and agroecology in Provence. Respect for biodiversity, sustainable water management, soil preservation, and the use of renewable energies are integral parts of the estate's philosophy.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking is supervised by Marc Perrin. Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, then vinified in stainless steel tanks or large oak vats (foudres) depending on the cuvées. Aging varies: the rosé is aged on lees to gain complexity, while whites sometimes benefit from barrel aging to bring volume and structure.
Miraval, remarkable Mediterranean wines
Miraval Rosé, the estate's emblematic wine, seduces with its balance, freshness, and aromas of fresh fruits, redcurrant, and lemon.
Miraval Blanc charms with its freshness, minerality, and notes of citrus, white flowers, and white-fleshed fruits, with a taut, elegant palate and a delicately saline finish.
Studio by Miraval, available in rosé and white, pays homage to the estate's famous recording studio and reveals a sublime mineral structure.
Muse de Miraval, a rosé made from the estate's oldest parcels, distinguishes itself through its great finesse, complexity, and careful aging and is only offered in magnum format.
