Description
The geological richness of a Marsannay terroir
The estate
Founded in 1979 following the split of the family-owned Clair-Daü estate, Domaine Bruno Clair is a landmark name in Burgundy, France. Now spanning 27 hectares across eight villages, this estate exemplifies a successful family legacy. Today, it is run by Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle, and their three children, Édouard, Margaux and Arthur, who share responsibility for technical and administrative management. Renowned for its exacting quality standards and rigorous selection process, the estate strives to express the full diversity of its terroirs.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the climat "Les Grasses Têtes", an 8-hectare terroir located in the commune of Marsannay, of which the estate cultivates just over 2 hectares. Facing east and southeast, the vines, planted between 1969 and 1973, thrive on a gentle slope at an altitude of between 280 and 335 metres. The shallow soil consists of heavy, iron-rich clay mixed with gravel. The roots reach down into a geologically complex subsoil made up of crinoidal limestone and white oolite, crossed by several faults, giving the grapes a unique mineral character.
The vintage
2022 stood out for its particularly favourable weather conditions. This warm, sunny vintage allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in a harmonious expression that combines power and finesse.
Winemaking and aging
To craft this Marsannay Village "Les Grasses Têtes" 2022, the grapes are hand-harvested, then meticulously sorted to retain only perfect berries. Fermentation includes 30 to 50% whole clusters, adding structure and complexity. The wine is then aged for an extended period in oak barrels, with 40% new wood, refining its texture and aromas.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).

Tasting notes
Color
The wine reveals a deep purple hue with black highlights, reflecting striking color intensity and remarkable visual depth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of ripe black fruit, evoking fig and plum. This fruity core is complemented by a pronounced mineral dimension, reminiscent of chalk and stone.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a dense texture and remarkable concentration. Its structure rests on firm yet finely mineral tannins. The whole retains a remarkable purity of fruit, supported by a lovely freshness that stretches the finish to great length.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with hearty meats such as grilled beef rib or spiced roasts. It also goes wonderfully with game dishes (venison, wild boar), rich poultry in sauce, and fatty fish like salmon. As for cheese, it enhances well-aged soft, washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses or Munster.
