Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Général de la Révolution 2023
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals a deep, luminous lemon-yellow hue, shot through with delicate green highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with striking aromatic intensity, dominated by floral scents of jasmine and acacia, intertwined with the wild herbs of the maquis. Aromas of white peach and white blackberry follow, supported by a mineral backbone evoking graphite and gunflint, along with subtle spicy touches.
Palate
The attack is crisp and straightforward, driven by a lovely acidity that structures a fleshy, concentrated texture. The palate unfolds flavours of apricot and peach, underlined by an angular minerality and a pronounced salinity. The finish stretches out long, with briny, iodine-tinged notes and a hint of refreshing bitterness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with noble shellfish such as grilled spiny lobster or a scallop carpaccio with citrus fruits. It also elevates Mediterranean fish such as sea bream or red mullet, as well as vegetable dishes with wild herbs and mature goat's and ewe's milk cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
With exceptional ageing potential, this 2023 vintage will evolve favourably over several decades.
The Authentic Expression of a Great White Wine by Domaine Comte Abbatucci
The Estate
Officially founded in 1950, Comte Abbatucci is now run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci. The estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture and the preservation of the island's plant heritage. A true pioneer, the domaine cultivates a unique collection of ancient indigenous grape varieties rescued from oblivion. Thanks to a philosophy that respects living systems and to innovative farming practices, the vineyard produces cuvées of rare authenticity that celebrate the richness of their terroir.
The Vineyard
Spanning twenty-one hectares at an altitude of around one hundred and fifty metres, the vineyard enjoys a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes. The vines thrive on particularly free-draining granitic sand soils, which promote optimal concentration in the berries. Farmed according to biodynamic principles within an ecosystem rich in biodiversity, this exceptional terroir gives rise to cuvées classified as Vin de France, offering complete freedom in the expression of local varieties.
Vinification and Ageing
The hand-harvested grapes, picked into small crates, undergo rigorous sorting. To craft this cuvée, the whole bunches are pressed directly. After static settling, alcoholic fermentation takes place in demi-muids and foudres. The wine is then aged on its full lees for nine months, followed by two months in tank. Cold tartrate stabilisation precedes bottling, after which the wine rests for a further six months before release.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from a blend of Carcajolu Biancu, Paga Debbiti, Riminese, Rossola Brandica, Biancone and Vermentinu.
