Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2024 from Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Colour
A deep ruby red hue appears in the glass.
Nose
The nose reveals a lovely aromatic complexity, blending fruit aromas with delicate floral notes reminiscent of rose and violet, all underscored by subtle woody touches.
Palate
The attack is initially smooth and fleshy, before evolving into a powerful yet refined tannic structure. This generous wine offers a silky texture and stretches into a remarkably persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with rich, flavourful dishes such as a rib of beef, braised lamb or roast veal with mushrooms. It also goes wonderfully well with feathered game, venison, as well as Burgundian soft-rind cheeses such as Époisses, Langres or Cîteaux.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to decant this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2024 between 30 and 60 minutes before serving. The ideal temperature is between 12 and 13°C in its youth, and between 15 and 16°C after a few years in the cellar. This wine, built to age, can be kept and enjoyed until around 2054.

The estate
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley stands out as a historic figure of Burgundy in France. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of approximately 120 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Committed to preserving this heritage, the estate has embarked on a strong environmental approach, with a full conversion to organic farming planned for 2025, thereby affirming its identity that combines tradition and innovation.
The vineyard
The Clos Vougeot vineyard, a vast appellation of the Côte de Nuits, has monastic origins dating back to 1110. The estate's three plots, covering just over a hectare, are spread across different areas of the climat. The lower section is distinguished by deep, marly soils rich in clay, which retain moisture perfectly. This geological characteristic proves particularly valuable in dry years, allowing the vines to maintain optimal hydration.
The vintage
The year 2024 proved to be particularly challenging in terms of weather. Spring was marked by heavy humidity in May and June, disrupting flowering and leading to coulure as well as millerandage. These persistent rainy conditions also fostered strong disease pressure throughout the growing cycle. Despite historically low yields, the natural selection brought about by this difficult climate resulted in berries of great concentration.
Winemaking and aging
Given the challenges of the year and the high concentration of the harvested berries, the technical team chose a measured approach. As a result, this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2024 underwent a very short aging process, without extended time in barrels, in order to preserve as much as possible the natural expression of the fruit, along with the purity and transparency of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
