Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2022 Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue with crimson glints, reflecting a beautiful concentration.

Nose
Intense and remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and plum. Delicate floral touches of rose and lavender intertwine with citrus nuances, enhanced by subtle toasted aromas.

Palate
Full-bodied and fleshy, the palate seduces with its silky texture and elegance. Supple tannins support a generous fruity core, leading to a remarkably long finish marked by a beautiful mineral and saline imprint.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted duck, pigeon, grilled lamb or a mushroom risotto. It will also enhance dishes flavoured with Mediterranean herbs such as thyme or rosemary.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Built for ageing, it can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2045.

Other Characteristics

This vintage stands out for its rather high pH, ensuring a lovely suppleness, and presents a moderate alcohol content ranging between 13 and 13.5%.

The Elegance and Mineral Precision of a Great Gevrey-Chambertin Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley has established itself as a true institution in Burgundy, France. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard spanning more than 120 hectares across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Combining respect for tradition with a contemporary vision, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, having fully converted to organic farming. Under the guidance of its technical director, the wines express the full complexity of their native climats with finesse and purity.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from the prestigious climat "Les Cazetiers", located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. The estate owns a substantial plot of around 4 hectares here, planted between 1955 and 2005. Rising to nearly 370 metres in altitude, this steep terroir enjoys a south-east exposure ideal for the ripening of the grapes. The soils are geologically diverse, combining heavy clay, gravel, white marl and limestone rock, providing perfect natural drainage and giving the wine its unique mineral signature.

The Vintage

The year 2022 brought mild and balanced weather conditions, marking the return of a generous harvest after several difficult years. The growing cycle unfolded optimally, despite a brief hailstorm at the end of June that had very little impact on the development of the bunches. Harvesting began under the best conditions at the end of August.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2022 follows a gentle, minimally interventionist approach. The grapes are moved by gravity to preserve their integrity. A cold maceration precedes fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle punching down and pumping over. Pressing is done vertically to avoid any astringency. Finally, the wine undergoes a careful ageing period of 16 to 20 months in oak barrels, 40 to 50% of which are new, to refine its structure.
