La RVF

Ripe fruit, but more nuanced and fresh in the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, which charms with its velvety fruit and sappy depth.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Colour
The glass glows with a beautiful deep ruby hue, clear and luminous, with the moderate intensity typical of its grape variety.

Nose
With exceptional aromatic intensity, the bouquet reveals scents of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. The whole is enhanced by subtle spicy touches, earthy notes and delicate animal nuances.

Palate
Firm and perfectly balanced, the palate offers a finely powdery tannic structure. Here, the brightness of the fruit perceived on the nose returns, harmoniously blended with mineral accents and gentle woody spices, stretching towards a remarkably well-defined finish.

Food and wine pairing

This French red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, such as duck with porcini mushrooms or coq au vin, as well as with braised red meats. It will also enhance a platter of matured cheeses, particularly an Époisses or other washed-rind cheeses.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, this Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 can also be left to age further in the cellar to develop its full complexity, and is ideally enjoyed until around 2029.

The elegance and depth of a great red wine from Gevrey-Chambertin

The estate

The history of this true institution began in 1825, under the impetus of Pierre Faiveley. Domaine Faiveley now oversees a vast vineyard of around 127 hectares. These lands extend across some of Burgundy's most prestigious terroirs. Currently led by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, who represent the seventh generation, the estate skilfully combines respect for local tradition with a modern approach. Deeply committed to preserving its environment, the estate has recently completed its conversion to fully organic viticulture.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a 9.82-hectare plot located within the renowned Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Facing east and southeast, at an altitude of between 240 and 280 metres, the vines thrive on iron-rich marl-limestone soils. Planted in several phases between 1945 and 1969, this terroir is home to vines over 35 years old, cultivated according to organic farming principles, which draw deep into the soil to offer unique concentration and aromatic expression.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by particularly contrasting weather conditions, with episodes of drought and heavy rainfall. Despite these climatic challenges, the growing cycle unfolded optimally, allowing the berries to reach perfect ripeness while retaining beautiful freshness and great complexity.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and at the winery. The bunches are transferred by gravity into temperature-controlled wooden vats, where fermentation begins thanks to indigenous yeasts, accompanied by an extended maceration. The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 20 to 30% of which are new, before being bottled by gravity in September 2023.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
