Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champ Gain" 2024 from Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a delicate pale gold hue, enhanced by luminous highlights.

Nose
Wonderfully fresh, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white flowers, notably acacia, closely intertwined with aromas of white-fleshed fruits such as peach and pear. Subtle citrus hints, reminiscent of lemon, along with delicate nuances of hazelnut and toasted wood beautifully complete this complex ensemble.

Palate
The palate offers a superb balance between a silky texture and a beautiful mineral tension. Barrel ageing brings a richness that harmonises with a crystalline vivacity, leading to a long and persistent finish, enhanced by a delicately toasted note.

Serving and cellaring

For an optimal tasting experience, this wine is best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. It can be enjoyed in its youth but will reveal its full cellaring potential until around 2038.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs beautifully with fine fish in butter-based sauces, such as salmon with beurre blanc, or with shellfish such as lobster and langoustine. It will also perfectly accompany poultry in cream sauce or characterful cheeses such as an aged goat's cheese, a Brie de Meaux or a Reblochon.

The estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley stands as one of the essential benchmarks of Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve, this independent family estate oversees an exceptional vineyard spread across the region's finest terroirs. Driven by a deep environmental commitment, the estate has carried out a complete conversion of its lands to organic farming, while preserving the authentic expression of its prestigious climats.

The vineyard

The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champ Gain" comes from a parcel acquired by the estate in 2014. Ideally facing south/south-east and situated at altitude above the Les Folatières climat, the vines benefit from cool nights that preserve the natural acidity of the grapes. Planted on light, stony and free-draining soils with a predominantly clay-limestone composition, the vines are subject to rigorous manual harvesting.

The vintage

The 2024 year was marked by a relatively cool growing season compared to warmer years. Despite some moderate climatic challenges, meticulous management of the vineyard made it possible to harvest berries of excellent maturity, perfectly reflecting the characteristics of this singular year.

Winemaking and ageing

After careful sorting, the grapes of this 2024 vintage are conveyed by gravity into wooden vats. Fermentation takes place naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, under strict temperature control. The wine is then aged in the estate's historic vaulted cellars, in French oak barrels, encouraging a gentle integration and a slow evolution.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
