Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Meursault 1er cru "Les Genevrières" 2023 Domaine François Mikulski

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a very pale gold hue, enhanced by discreet green highlights.

Nose
Wonderfully fresh, the bouquet reveals a lovely floral complexity. It opens with a myriad of refined spices evoking ginger, bergamot, lemongrass and verbena, subtly rounded out by touches of Espelette pepper and ras el hanout.

Palate
Juicy and fleshy, the palate offers remarkable tension. It unfurls aromas of fresh citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and yellow fruits such as mango and peach, supported by notes of apple and pear. The whole is heightened by a touch of pepper and a delicate sea salinity reminiscent of Guérande salt, extending into a precise minerality with flint and gypsum accents.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with characterful cheeses such as Époisses, roasted white meats or those in creamy sauces, as well as seafood, oysters or truffle-based dishes.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the Meursault 1er cru "Les Genevrières" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, after decanting or letting it breathe for at least fifteen minutes. This wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve, drinking well until around 2035.

The mineral elegance and complexity of a white wine from Meursault

The estate

Founded in 1991 in Meursault, in Burgundy, Domaine François Mikulski was born from François's family heritage, having been introduced to winemaking by his uncle, and that of his wife, Marie-Pierre. Today, the estate is co-managed by François Mikulski and Thomas Boccon, his designated successor. Spanning approximately 8.5 hectares, the estate stands out for its pioneering commitment to uncertified organic viticulture and controlled yields. Internationally recognised for its minimal-intervention approach, the estate produces authentic wines that favour freshness, tension and a pure expression of terroir.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a 0.53-hectare plot farmed under a sharecropping agreement since 1992, located in the upper part of the climat known as Genevrières Dessus, within the Meursault appellation. East-facing, the vines, over fifty years old, thrive on soils composed of stony marl and Jurassic limestone. The vineyard is managed according to organic principles, without synthetic chemical inputs, favouring limited yields to concentrate the quality of the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2023 in France stood out for its moderate climatic conditions, avoiding the extreme heat of previous vintages. Marked by a degree of water stress and notable evaporation, the year nonetheless achieved lovely phenolic ripeness while preserving great freshness.

Winemaking and aging

After pneumatic pressing and rigorous settling, fermentation of the Meursault 1er cru "Les Genevrières" 2023 begins slowly thanks to indigenous yeasts in cool cellars. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aging takes place on the lees for twelve months in 500-litre barrels, comprising 17% new oak and 83% barrels that have already held one to six wines, before a natural fining ahead of bottling.
