Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Domenico Clerico's "Trevigne" 2023

Tasting notes

Colour
Deep ruby red in colour, this wine reveals a remarkable brilliance, enhanced by subtle violet nuances.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of red and black fruits such as morello cherry, red plum and blackberry. It is then enriched with nuances of violet, sweet spices and aniseed, complemented by delicate hints of vanilla and wood.

Palate
The attack is juicy, dominated by cherry and blackberry. This medium-bodied Italian red wine offers lovely natural acidity and moderate tannins, lending a soft, elegant texture. The lingering finish is marked by fruit, fine spices, a mineral touch and great freshness.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with traditional Piedmontese cuisine, such as tagliatelle with bolognese sauce or a meat and mushroom risotto. It also goes very well with grilled red meats, lamb, game, as well as oily fish such as salmon, aged cheeses and spicy Asian dishes.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, allowing you to enjoy its vibrant freshness, this vintage also boasts a fine structure that will allow it to evolve favourably in the cellar.

The richness and elegance of a Barbera d'Alba by Domenico Clerico

The estate

Founded in 1976 by Domenico Clerico and his wife Giuliana, the estate is located in Monforte d'Alba, in Piedmont. Initially comprising four hectares, the vineyard now spans 21 hectares. An emblematic figure of the modernist "Barolo Boys" movement, Domenico Clerico left a profound mark on the region. Since his passing in 2017, the estate has been run by his wife Giuliana and his niece. They are supported by Oscar Arrivabene, general manager and winemaker, who continues this pursuit of excellence by combining respect for the terroir with technical innovation.

The vineyard

This Barbera d'Alba is made from three distinct plots located in the prestigious Ginestra and Bricco San Pietro crus, in Monforte d'Alba. Planted at altitudes ranging from 220 to 420 metres, the vines, over thirty years old and grown from massale selection, thrive on ancient soils composed of limestone, sandstone, clay and marl. The estate favours a sustainable, organic approach in order to preserve biodiversity and the pure expression of this unique terroir.

Winemaking and aging

To craft the "Trevigne" 2023, the grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. Vinification takes place in small vats of 10 to 15 hectolitres, allowing precise control over each plot. A long, gentle maceration is carried out to extract the richness of the aromas while preserving the fruit's natural freshness. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, lending roundness and a subtle complexity to the whole.
