M. Chapoutier : Croix de Bois 2024

Surprisingly dark in colour for a pure Grenache. What an amazing nose: exotic, with rose petals, wild strawberry and sandalwood. There’s a lovely rounded mouthfeel; not massive, but adequately concentrated. The acidity and alcohol are balanced, although it is really quite tannic (35% whole bunch). Yet it’s very drinkable, dry and fresh, and has real structure and freshness. Actually quite austere in tannin, so give it time, but it will be good. Fermented in ceramic vats. Yields of 6hl/ha. Might score higher once bottled, it has promise.
