In the south of Italy, on the edge of the Salento region, on the Mediterranean coast, several tall watchtowers once stood. These towers gave their name to this family-owned wine estate: "Tormaresca". Associated today with the Antinori family, the oldest (1385) and most famous wine family of Italy, Tormaresca has earned a reputation as one of the top producers in Italy, and is a member of the Primum Familiæ Vini, which brings together some of the oldest family-owned wine estates.
In early 1998, Tormaresca began its work within the appellations of DOC Castel del Monte and IGT Salento through two properties: Bucca di Lupo and Masseria Maìme. Antinori Tormaresca is the only producer to own estates in the two most beautiful wine regions of Puglia, within the appellations of DOC Castel del Monte and IGT Salento.
The first is a gem of Italian wine culture. Perched atop the hills surrounding the legendary castle (listed as a UNESCO heritage site) of Frederick II, Emperor of the Holy German Empire and king of Sicily and Provence, these vineyards, steeped in history, are among the most renowned in the region not only for their quality but also for their wild character. The Bucca di Lupo winery is located in the heart of the estate's vineyards and built according to the ancestral traditions of farmhouses typical in the Murgia region.
The second represents the southernmost territory of Puglia, forming the heel of the Italian boot. Located between two seas, the Mediterranean influence is perfect for helping to ripen the grapes.
Following tradition, Antinori-Tormaresca makes it a point to honour a combination of ancestral viticultural know-how and modern innovation to achieve the excellence for which they are known.
These vineyards, bathed in sunshine, provide the perfect setting for indigenous grape varieties, such as Aglianico and Fiano Pugliese, as well as international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, to flourish, producing the very solar wines of Antinori –Tormaresca.
