Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2010 by Sandrone Luciano
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a deep red color.
Nose
The nose reveals exceptional complexity, unfolding a rich bouquet of black fruits, various dark flowers, and spices. Notes of wood, garrigue, mushroom, and tar complete this structured aromatic palette. Initially closed, the bouquet gradually opens with aeration to reveal multiple fruity and floral dimensions.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is tight in its youth, requiring patience and aeration to fully express its potential. It then reveals multifaceted fruit accompanied by tannins of almost silky softness. A vibrant freshness runs through the entire tasting, leading to an exceptionally long finish marked by notes of forest floor and a fine minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This Barolo pairs perfectly with Serrano ham, grilled lamb chops served with eggplant and zucchini with almonds, or truffle Brie.
Serving and cellaring
Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2010 is recommended for tasting between around 2030 and 2060, a period during which it will express its full complexity and outstanding aging potential.
An exceptional Barolo from a rigorous selection of terroirs in Piedmont
The estate
Founded in 1978 by Luciano Sandrone in Barolo, in Piedmont, the Sandrone Luciano estate now spans 27 hectares across Barolo, Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, Novello, and Valmaggiore. A pioneer of the Barolo revival during the 1980s, Luciano Sandrone established a benchmark for quality by favoring a natural approach without chemicals. Since his passing in 2024, his daughter Barbara, his brother Luca, his wife Mariuccia, and his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano have carried on his legacy with the “Sibi et Paucis” project, which extends aging by an additional ten years.
The vineyard
This Barolo comes from three distinct terroirs located in Barolo (Vignane), Serralunga d'Alba (Baudana), and Novello (Merli). The addition of fruit from Baudana in Serralunga for this 2010 vintage brings power and depth to this classic blend. The harvest took place between October 7 and October 25, 2010.
The vintage
A wet winter and spring helped replenish the soil’s water reserves. The summer, ranging from normal to cool, encouraged a long growing cycle without excessive heat. These conditions produced grapes of remarkable ripeness and complexity, combining great structure with finesse.
Vinification and aging
Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2010 benefited from spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Maceration and fermentation took place in open-top steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and aging were carried out in 500-liter French oak casks. This “Sibi et Paucis” cuvée was then aged for an additional six years in the estate’s cellars after its initial release date of September 2014.
Grape variety
100% nebbiolo.
