An elegant and mineral Burgundian Chardonnay from Domaine Albert Morot

The estate

Founded in 1820, Domaine Albert Morot now spans eight hectares, concentrated almost exclusively in premier crus from the Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune appellations. Since 2023, the estate has belonged to Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal, who entrusted management to the renowned oenologist Pierre-Jean Villa. Certified organic since 2015, the estate stands out for its historic monopoly of Clos de la Bataillère, a Climat classified as a tête de cuvée as early as 1855 by Jules Lavalle. This emblematic Beaune property produces terroir-driven wines of great finesse, respecting traditional Burgundian methods.

The vineyard

The Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" blanc comes from a 0.67-hectare monopoly located in the prestigious Vergelesses Climat. Planted in 2013 and producing its first vintage in 2017, this vineyard benefits from an ideal south-southeast exposure. The soils composed mainly of limestone and sand give the wine its distinctive minerality and aromatic precision. The vines, farmed under certified organic practices, are planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare and pruned according to the plant-respecting Guyot-Poussard method.

The vintage

The 2023 vintage in Bourgogne benefited from particularly favorable climatic conditions. A mild spring was followed by a warm summer with cool nights, allowing optimal physiological ripeness without excessive alcohol accumulation. Moderate rainfall prevented water stress, while early autumn offered ideal conditions for an early harvest, carried out on September 4. These conditions made it possible to produce white wines of great elegance, characterized by their aromatic complexity and remarkable freshness.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos de la Bataillère" 2023 are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. After immediate pressing, the must undergoes settling in tank for several days. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in 350- and 400-liter French oak barrels, without temperature control, allowing the wine to ferment naturally. Gentle bâtonnage is carried out until the end of fermentation to enrich the texture. Aging continues for twelve months in barrels, followed by six to eight weeks in tank before bottling, carried out without fining or filtration.
