Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Marchese Antinori Riserva 2023 from Antinori - Tenuta Tignanello

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals an intense ruby red hue.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is striking, blending scents of black cherries, small red fruits and raspberry jelly. These fruity notes intertwine with floral touches of violet and broom, rounded out by indulgent and spicy nuances of cocoa, pastry cream, ginger and cedar.

Palate
The palate offers a superb balance thanks to a silky texture supported by tannins that are both supple and dense. The particularly savoury and persistent finish leaves delicate impressions of icing sugar and chocolate.

Food and wine pairings
Thanks to its beautiful tannic structure and pronounced acidity, this cuvée is a wonderful match for rich and flavourful dishes. It will pair ideally with game such as wild boar, roast lamb, beef cuts like a ribeye steak, or with Tuscan sausages and braised veal.

Other characteristics
This dry red wine has an alcohol content ranging between 13.5% and 14.5%. It also features a minimum dry extract of 25 g/L, in accordance with the requirements of its appellation.

The elegance of a red wine crafted in the heart of Chianti Classico by Antinori - Tenuta Tignanello

The estate
Although the winemaking history of the Antinori family began in 1385, the specific Tenuta Tignanello estate was established upon its acquisition in 1850. Located in Tuscany, about thirty minutes south of Florence, this historic property extends over 319 hectares. Today, the Antinori family, with Albiera Antinori as president, remains the owner and continues to uphold this ancestral expertise. Renowned worldwide, Antinori - Tenuta Tignanello has distinguished itself by revolutionising Italian viticulture, notably by creating the first Super Tuscans and showcasing the unique expression of its terroir.

The vineyard
The vines flourish at the centre of the Chianti Classico production area, on gentle hills nestled between the Pesa and Greve valleys. The estate dedicates around 165 hectares to viticulture, perched at an altitude ranging from 350 to 400 metres. The soils, dating back to the Pliocene era, consist of marl, limestone, galestro and alberese. This terroir benefits from significant thermal variations between day and night. Since 2011, this cuvée has been produced exclusively from grapes of the famous Tignanello vineyard, with a south-westerly exposure.

The vintage
The year 2023 began with a dry and cold winter, followed by a classic budbreak. The period from late April to mid-June proved rainy and cool. Summer then brought a dry and warm climate, without any heatwave. Rainfall in August, combined with normal weather conditions in September and October, ensured ideal ripening of the berries. The harvest took place in mid-September for the Sangiovese and at the beginning of October for the Cabernets.

Winemaking and aging
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grape bunches intended for the Marchese Antinori Riserva 2023 were destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for around a week. A maceration of about ten days followed, punctuated by délestages and gentle pump-overs in order to extract tannins and colour while preserving finesse. Malolactic fermentation, triggered spontaneously, was completed before the end of the year. Finally, the wine was blended and aged for nearly a year in Hungarian and French oak barrels, before resting for an additional 12 months in bottle.

Grape varieties
This wine is predominantly made from Sangiovese (at least 80%), complemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
