The estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest wine houses. The estate now spans 130 hectares across more than 450 parcels throughout the Côte d'Or, including 12 hectares of grands crus and 74 hectares of premiers crus. Since 2022, the house has been owned by Artémis Domaines, headed by Frédéric Engerer, with Emmanuel Dumont as Managing Director and Mickaël Baroin as Technical Director. The entire vineyard obtained organic certification in 2025, reflecting the estate’s environmental commitment.

The vineyard

Aloxe-Corton is a village appellation located in the Côte de Beaune. Spread across the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny, the vineyard enjoys a distinctive geographical setting shaped by the famed Hill of Corton. The vines are planted at altitudes ranging from 200 to 300 meters, on reddish soils containing flint and limestone debris enriched with potassium and phosphoric acid. The due-east exposure gives the grapes optimal morning sunshine, encouraging balanced ripening of the Pinot Noir.

The vintage

The 2021 vintage in Burgundy proved particularly demanding. Spring was marked by devastating frosts in early April, with temperatures dropping between -3 and -6°C, followed by a cool spell in May. Summer was characterized by significant humidity and a constant threat of hail. Despite these difficult conditions, welcome rains at the end of August allowed the grapes to ripen optimally. Harvest began in late August for certain parcels, with reduced yields but healthy grapes of remarkable quality.

Winemaking and aging

The Aloxe-Corton Village 2021 grapes were vinified using Bouchard Père & Fils’ traditional methods, favoring fermentations with indigenous yeasts to encourage the expression of the terroir. Vinification took place in the state-of-the-art winery in Savigny-lès-Beaune, built in 2005 and incorporating sustainable practices. Aging was carried out in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.
