The richness and complexity of a Beaune wine
The estate
Founded in 1731, the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is a historic institution in Bourgogne, located in the heart of Beaune in France. Operating from the famous Château de Beaune acquired in 1820, the estate is renowned for its centuries-old underground cellars. With a 130-hectare vineyard, it is the largest landowner in the Côte d'Or. Since 2022, the estate has been majority-owned by Artémis Domaines, belonging to François Pinault, while the Henriot family retains minority shares. The estate stands out for its transition toward organic viticulture that respects the terroir.
The vineyard
This Beaune 1er cru "Clos du Roi" Domaine 2022 comes from distinct plots within the Beaune appellation. The vines thrive on rocky marl-limestone soils, benefiting from varied exposures ranging from east-southeast to south-southeast. The estate is strongly committed to an environmental approach, with a gradual conversion to organic farming that will extend to the entire vineyard by 2026.
The vintage
The year 2022 in Bourgogne was marked by uncertain weather that ultimately proved mild throughout the season. These favorable climatic conditions allowed the grapes to reach optimal health and achieve fine ripeness, subtly varying depending on the exposure of each plot.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are meticulously harvested by hand. For this Beaune 2022, each plot is vinified separately in order to preserve the identity of its terroir. The vinification includes a proportion of 40% whole clusters, promoting freshness and fine tannins. The final blend is then carefully carried out. Aging follows the house tradition, for twelve to fourteen months in French oak barrels, 25 to 35% of which are new, in the historic underground cellars.
Grape variety
This Beaune 1er cru "Clos du Roi" Domaine 2022 from Bouchard Père & Fils is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
