Chandon de Briailles : Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Les Lavières" 2021

The forward, accessible plummy fruit with notes of violet, earth, and savoury complexity in this Savigny premier cru are immediately engaging. Although the body is somewhat light, the fresh acidity and supple tannins carry this to an elegant conclusion. The grapes come from a 2.61-hectare parcel at the top of the slope planted in thin soils over slabs (‘laves’) of limestone. Half of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters to add complexity and freshness—among my favourites from Savigny this year.

Sweet and a bit simple but easy to like even if not complex. (JR)

Smoky nose, with dense, silky texture, a touch wild, driven by an extract of very dark fruits. Good, predictable aging potential.

A true concentrate of ripe black cherries, complemented by a floral touch and attractive green notes. The palate echoes this impression with a silky feel and soft, juicy flesh, with fully wrapped tannins. A wine where indulgence and elegance are perfectly balanced, brightened by the luminosity of a fresh vintage. Exemplary.
