Chanson : Beaune 1er cru "Clos des Marconnets" Domaine 2021

Deep nose of black cherry and blackcurrant pastilles with lots of licorice and smoke. Generous body and concentration for this difficult vintage, the fruit wrapping nicely around the quite bold tannins. The finish is still slightly firm, but this has very good potential and may well show better after another year or two of bottle age. Well integrated oak all the way through. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

As is often the case with the Marconnets, you feel like you’ve moved to a different slope, with a vinous character reminiscent of the Côte de Nuits and a bit more body and textural density, but without astringency. Excellent.
