Chanson : Beaune 1er cru "Clos du Roi" Domaine 2020

An elegant style, this red features cherry, blackberry, spice and a hint of vegetal flavors. Refined and balanced, this just needs a year or two to absorb the tannins and become more expressive. Best from 2024 through 2038. 40 cases imported.

Chanson owns nearly 3 ha (i.e. 35% of the total climat area), two-thirds of which are planted with Pinot Noir. Cask sample. Pretty deep crimson. Rather gorgeous nose of raspberry juice and undergrowth. Lovely balance on the palate even if it’s all relatively forward. A mass of pleasure with fine tannins and sufficient acidity on the finish. Very successful for relatively early drinking. (JR)

A complex nose of blackberry, rhubarb and rose high tones and a sprinkling of wild thyme and black peppercorn. The palate is refreshing with acidity that highlights its core of black fruits and dried herbs. While it is enjoyable to drink now, additional cellaring well through 2030 before revisiting should be beneficial.
