Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Château Bastor-Lamontagne 2025

Tasting

Nose
This vintage reveals remarkable aromatic precision. It opens with intense notes of tropical fruits, reminiscent of pineapple and peach, complemented by subtle hints of dried apricots and delicate nuances of mushrooms linked to noble rot.

Palate
The wine offers great concentration combined with a vibrant balance. The generous sweetness is perfectly counterbalanced by well-preserved acidity, resulting in a refined and refreshing structure. The finish stands out for its remarkable length, marked by honeyed notes and a delicate creaminess.

Food and wine pairings
Ideal as an aperitif, this sweet wine pairs wonderfully with lightly spiced seafood or seafood enhanced with citrus, as well as with Asian cuisine. It also accompanies with elegance a delicately prepared foie gras, blue-veined cheeses, or desserts based on fresh fruits.

Serving and cellaring
Thanks to its excellent acidity and balanced pH, this wine boasts remarkable cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve favorably in the cellar for many years.

Other characteristics
Beautiful richness illustrated by 160 g/L of residual sugars and a pH of 3.8.

The elegance and richness of a Sauternes wine

The estate
Located in Preignac, in the Bordeaux region, Château Bastor-Lamontagne has royal origins dating back to 1453, but its true creation as a family wine estate dates from 1711. Today, this magnificent property is run by the Helfrich family, who have owned it since 2018. The estate stands out for its environmental commitment, having been certified organic since 2016. Surrounded by rich biodiversity, the 18th-century château watches over an exceptional terroir, producing wines renowned for their freshness and elegance.

The vineyard
The single-block vineyard extends over 47 hectares, 41 of which are in production, in the heart of the Sauternes appellation. The vines, with an average age of 30 years, are planted at a density of 7,142 vines per hectare on sandy-gravelly and clay-limestone soils. This terroir benefits from rich biodiversity thanks to its proximity to the Ciron river, forests, acacia woods, and a park. The estate is managed according to organic farming principles, fostering natural balance and meticulous canopy management to protect the grapes while ensuring optimal ripening.

The vintage
The growing cycle was marked by a particularly dry and hot August, leading to water stress and rapid ripening of the berries. In early September, welcome rains created the humidity conditions necessary for the development of botrytis. This period was immediately followed by a return to dry, sunny weather, providing an ideal climate for the rapid, even, and perfectly controlled evolution of noble rot, allowing for early concentration of the grapes.

Winemaking and aging
The harvest was carried out by hand through successive selective pickings between September 18 and October 21. The crop, transported partly in small crates, undergoes pressing tailored to each plot and each picking. Fermentation begins in small stainless steel vats before the must is transferred, mid-process, into French oak barrels. Aging then continues with 30% new barrels. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties
83% Sémillon and 17% Sauvignon Blanc.
