Vinous

Antonio Galloni

The 2019 Beauregard is powerful, deep and super-expressive. There's terrific depth and resonance here. Black cherry, mocha, espresso, licorice, dried flowers and menthol power through. This is an especially muscular style that is more about impact than subtlety. Even so, the progress here over the last few years is worth noting. The 2019 is big, bold and delicious. Tasted two times.

Chocolate mint, licorice, espresso and plums are found in the nose and on the round, ripe, fresh, plummy palate. The wine is forward, so you can enjoy this on release for all of its up-front deep, red fruits and mocha.

[ En Primeur 2019 notes: 94-95 ] A great Beauregard that will go down in history for its juicy, charming tannins on the attack and, above all, for its momentum that unfurls from the mid-palate, perfectly extended by a stylish finish that sets it apart.

Logo on the cork: A in a circle (Amorim) Beautiful deep dark red. Intense nose with very ripe fruit. Creamy touch. Soft on the attack, juicy mid-palate, the wine gains depth in the second half of the palate. It finishes flavorful with a slight touch of oak. Good length. If you don’t know this wine, discover it with the 2020, which is even better.

From a 19-acre property, this richly structured, jammy wine bursts with black fruits. These are balanced by subtle wood aging that adds spice and a creamy edge to the tannins. The wine is made for aging. Drink from 2025.

Ripe and quite forward, with plum and black cherry compote flavors guided by a licorice root note. The slightly jammy fruit fades a touch on the toasty finish. Drink now through 2026. 3,400 cases made, 250 cases imported.

Decanter

Fully ripe fruit aromas on the nose, they're bursting out of the glass, so expressive. Clearly very powerful on the palate, rich, ripe, concentrated fruit - and at 15.5% you can taste it in the intensity of fruit but it doesn't stick out in terms of heat spice as they can do. Tannins are sleek and well integrated and this has a soft chew, mouth filling. It's certainly expansive with plenty of structure and throttle, just a little less detail and layers on show than some. Lovely floral aspect to the sides. Needs a few more years in bottle.

James Suckling

A perfumed nose of blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, sweet praline, chocolate and dried lemons. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins. Beautiful sweetly spiced fruit with a fleshy texture and a flavorful, creamy finish. Drink from 2025.

Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, discreet bright rim. Layered fresh orange zest with ripe cherry fruit, some nougat, a fine noble wood touch. Medium body, sweet cherries, delicate tannins, chocolatey touch on the finish, a versatile food wine, shows ageing potential.

From an estate that appears to be on an upward trajectory, the 2019 Château Beauregard is a textbook 2019 with its pure, elegant, seamless style. Black cherries, darker currants, leafy herbs, and floral notes all emerge on the nose, and it's wonderfully textured, medium to full-bodied, has gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. It's up with the 2018 and certainly one of the finest vintages I've tasted from this address. It will drink well for 15-20 years.

Kunz Fassprobe 2020: (70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 14.5% alc. by vol., production of 40,000 bottles) Velvety, sweet, powerful bouquet: blackberry jelly, dark chocolate, cedar, liquorice. Densely woven, creamy palate with ripe, sweet fruit, fine tannins, classic structure, complex aromatics, and a long, concentrated finish.

Beautiful structure and freshness, as I am finding in so many of the 2019s from Pomerol. Delivers on its En Primeur promise, the tannins remain tight but they are textured and confident, and layered through with sage, smoked earth, cigar box, fragrant rosebud, along with plenty of damson and black cherry fruit. Higher Cabernet Franc (up to 30% from 25%) and less time in barrel (18 months down from 20 months) than 2018. 50% new oak.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 Beauregard is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it prances out with a fragrant nose of dried roses, fallen leaves, and tilled soil over a core of plum preserves and kirsch. The full-bodied palate delivers a grainy texture and seamless freshness to support the muscular fruit, finishing savory.

Le Figaro Vin

A vivid, vibrant bouquet of very pure red fruits, perfectly ripe, with notes of rose and peony. Precise and slender, the nose brings to mind an opera singer perfectly fitted into her stage gown. On the palate, it is extremely pure and fresh, caressing, perfectly balanced and harmonious, with chalky tannins on the finish.

Right from the start, Beauregard’s bouquet is inviting, with hints of sweet spices, blackberries and violets. On the palate, the wine is dense and smooth. Its tannins provide excellent structure; they are certainly firm yet well integrated. A charming, perfectly balanced wine that deserves a little time in the cellar.
