Château Chauvin 2021

Cool, mineral nose, dark fruit, violets. Delicate, fruit‑driven palate, fine tannins, carries through with length. Leaner than before, yet no less charming.

Nicely fragrant and perfumed on the nose with blackcurrants and bramble berries. An instant splash of just-ripe red and black fruit – tart strawberries and cherries – makes the mouth water before being replaced by salt-edged tannins that leave a slightly grainy, but pleasant, texture in the mouth. Lingering elements of vanilla, dark chocolate, graphite and touches of liquorice accent the finish, more savoury than spiced. Nicely balanced and not trying too hard. Soft, gently filling and elegant.

Refined nose showing delicate sweet berries, white pepper spice, cigar box and cocoa powder. Elegant, bone-dry and linear on the palate with a medium body and pretty silky tannins. Not a wine for the depth of flavors or intensity. Finesse, delicacy and length are the key words. Already delicious, but can hold, too.

75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample. Floral and fragrant with plenty of lift and freshness. Tidy, medium-bodied fruit and frame. Some persistence. Balanced. (JL)

The 2021 Chauvin has an open and inviting bouquet, with blackberry, wild hedgerow and cedar scents that gain vigor with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a harmonious finish, albeit relatively lighter compared to recent vintages. This will drink well for 15 years or so.

Dried flowers, cardamom, red fruits and underbrush shape the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, soft, elegant, medium-bodied and forward, leaving you with zesty cherries, touches of licorice and a drop of citrus on the back end that will be delicious to enjoy upon release. Drink from 2024–2036.

Dark ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Delicate tobacco, red cherries, cranberries and subtle mineral nuances on the nose. Slender palate with red cherries and racy acidity, integrated tannins, hints of cloves and a salty finish.

The 2021 Château Chauvin shows solid ripeness in its red, blue, and black fruits, along with subtle background oak, tobacco, and crushed-stone-like minerality. It’s medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with fine tannins and a good finish.

Delivers a sense of control and carefully placed fruit, very much on the medium-ripe side—think red cherry and redcurrant, with no drift towards damson or cassis—showing balance and finesse. The acidity, as with all of these wines, is fairly high, but it gains extra layers of clove and white pepper, offering a mouthwatering lift on the finish.

The 2021 Chauvin has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It rolls out with evocative scents of kirsch, black raspberries, and mulberries, followed by hints of lavender and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate is soft and lively, with bright red berry flavors and a perfumed finish.

On the nose, the finish is dominated by old-school toasted wood notes that slightly mask the lovely bright fruit. On the palate, ripe, rounded red fruits and a biting acidity on the finish.

Chauvin 2021 reveals itself with delicacy and precision. Its slender, elegant character already makes it very approachable. A harmonious, velvety wine to enjoy in its youth, yet one that can also spend some time in the cellar.

Dark, beautiful purple color. Intense nose with ripe fruit. Soft on the attack, delicately suave mid-palate; the wine unfolds with caressing, refined aromas, leading to a pleasant finish of moderate length. Discreet, well-wrapped tannins. Blend: 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc.

92–94. Barrel Sample. Packed with ripe, dense fruits, this wine is structured and full of black plum flavors. It is rich while guarding the freshness of the vintage. The wine is already well balanced.
