Honey, apple tart and lemon rind. Full-bodied, medium-sweet and very spicy with intense flavors of mace, apple and honey. Long finish. Thick and powerful. Best after 2010. 4,165 cases made.

The 2003 Coutet has a well-defined bouquet, considering this was the year of the heat wave. Pretty yellow plum and tangerine scents have retained their freshness. The palate is crisp and taut, waxy in texture with yellow plum and quince, harmonious and poised with a fresh and persistent finish. This deserves a round of applause. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.

Honey, citrus rind, peach, nectarine, vanilla, and floral scents lead to a rich, ripe, unctuous sweet white Bordeaux wine filled with honey-coated tropical fruit, crème brûlée, and honey.

Quite deep golden colour. Still a bit of wood on the nose, candied fruit, pineapple and quince with a dense and opulent sweetness, some evolution but still with a sweet presence, ripe fruit, and a dense, intense finish. Young but potent.

Medium yellow, lemon highlights. Straightforward bouquet, finely distributed botrytis, delicate muscat note, fine minerality. On the palate, lots of present sweetness, pectin notes, cooked peach; sweetness currently somewhat dominant, even more pronounced on the finish; slimmer than comparable competitors, with room to improve.

04: Medium yellow with lemon highlights. Straightforward bouquet; finely distributed botrytis, delicate muscat nuance, fine minerality. On the palate, lots of present sweetness; cooked peaches, pectin—the sweetness currently seems to slightly prevail, which is clearly noticeable on the finish. A touch slimmer than comparable competitors. Can still improve. 17/20 2008–2030

Sun-yellow color. Intense, fruity, fresh nose with a hint of orange. Rich on the attack, very supple mid-palate, airy and smooth, with a complex flavor of mandarin and vanilla; the wine finishes long, tasty, and delicious. pH: 3.5, residual sugar: 150 g/L.

Description

2003 Barsac 1er Cru Classe

Chateau Coutet 38.5 hectares vineyard uses reasoned agriculture to manage the growth of vines averaging 40 years old. The 2003 Chateau Coutet is 80% Semillon, 18% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle.

The wine displays a beautiful old gold hue. The nose exudes a very developed array of aromas: lemon zest, candied pineapple, quince paste, vanilla and honey all the while offering very neat mineral notes. The concentration is very appealing to the palate, revealing great botrytization. The 2003 Chateau Coutet reveals fleshy (almost voluptuous), distinguished, and strong texture on the mid palate. Retro-olfaction bring pleasant notes of honey, vanilla, gingerbread, dry fruits, as well as sharpness from citrus and candied pineapple flavours adding a little bit of freshness. The finish is tasty and balanced: rich and imposing offering with great quality.
