Château d'Agassac 2021

The 2021 D'Agassac marks the final vintage overseen by Jean-Luc Zell, who has performed admirably at this estate. It possesses a fruity, elegant bouquet with aromas of cassis, blueberry, spring flowers and licorice, followed by a moderately weighted palate, a long, fruity and velvety mid-palate and a fresh, penetrating finish. Despite being slightly less fleshy than usual, it maintains its status as a reliable choice. This is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc.

Green herbs and blue fruit on the nose. Bright and unfussy, an easy glass of wine. It's a little light, doesn’t have much plumpness and loses some fruit-forward character, but it's enjoyable. Needs a bit more time to harmonise and soften the slightly austere finish.

Sweet red cherries with a touch of mint and smoked herbs open the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, polished and soft, with the essence of cherries and plums in the dusty, berry- and olive-tinged finish. Drink from 2024-2034.

Rather dark colour with a youthful purple hue. Youthful aromas of fresh herbs, red fruit, plum, some new oak. Medium weight, moderate ripeness yet polished without hard edges, crushed red berry notes and tobacco, a fresh and savoury traditional profile from a cooler vintage with fine balance and length.

Beautiful red fruits, spice, cedary herbs, and even some floral notes emerge from the 2021 Château D'Agassac, a charming, medium-bodied, silky, elegant red that shines for its balance and purity. It will evolve for 7-8 years.

Rich plum colour; as with En Primeur, you can expect lean, savoury blue and black fruits from the very first moments. There’s a sappy charm to it, with clear spice, but it lacks momentum across the palate. 40% new oak.

Agassac continues a fine run, and 2021 is a tender, supple wine, yet very pleasant. A Haut-Médoc that is already showing well, with a balanced palate. However, it can rest in the cellar for a few more years.

D’Agassac has both brilliance and depth. It bridges the freshness of the vintage with ripe fruit, creating a kind of paradox that adds to the aromatic complexity. On the palate, the wine is both delicate and powerful—another paradox! The wine is well-framed, supported by precise, silky tannins, while the structure carries the temperament. The technical team avoided pushing the extractions too far, which may explain the limited flavor depth, amply offset by charm and freshness.

The nose is fruity, fresh, and offers a certain concentration, power, and intensity. There are notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, and, more lightly, bright small black fruits, combined with touches of cherry and camphor, as well as fine hints of violet, licorice, and a subtle hint of graphite. The palate is fruity, taut, linear, a little tight, and offers concentration, minerality, and tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and, more lightly, fairly ripe small red berries, combined with touches of violet as well as fine hints of graphite, iodized minerality, a subtle hint of terracotta, and a subtle hint of sweet spices. Good length. The tannins are precise and relatively powerful.
