Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château de Chambord Sauvignon-Orbois 2023 from Domaine National de Chambord
Tasting notes
Nose
The nose is expressive and seductive, unveiling mouthwatering aromas of yellow fruit (white peach, pear, apricot), citrus (grapefruit, lemon) and exotic fruit (pineapple, mango), punctuated by notes of white flowers.
Palate
The palate harmoniously combines freshness and fruitiness. Slender in structure, it is guided by a precise acidity and carries through to a finish revealing beautiful minerality, the signature of the Ormetrou terroir.
Food and wine pairing
This wine is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif. It also pairs beautifully with seafood platters, grilled fish, goat's cheese, as well as fresh starters and mixed salads.
Serving and cellaring
Château de Chambord Sauvignon-Orbois 2023 is served chilled, between 8 and 10°C. According to the Guide Hachette des Vins, it can be enjoyed until around 2028.
A Fresh and Mineral White Cheverny, Expression of the Domaine National de Chambord Vineyard
The estate
The Domaine National de Chambord is a public establishment created in 2005, responsible for managing the château, its 5,440-hectare forest park and, since 2015, a 14-hectare vineyard in the Loire Valley. Owned by the French State and managed by this public establishment under the joint supervision of three government ministries, the estate combines Renaissance heritage with contemporary viticulture. This institutional singularity sets Chambord radically apart from the privately owned wine estates of the Loire.
The vineyard
The vineyard is located in the lieu-dit of l'Ormetrou, approximately one and a half kilometres from the château, on a plot planted between 2015 and 2019. The north-south oriented rows stand on sandy soils with a clay subsoil, offering both drainage and water reserves. Part of the Cheverny appellation, this Loire terroir benefits from hand harvesting carried out by estate staff together with volunteers.
Winemaking and ageing
Château de Chambord Sauvignon-Orbois 2023 comes from an exclusively hand-harvested crop, followed by skin maceration, destemming and gentle pressing. Settling and alcoholic fermentation take place at low temperature. Ageing is carried out entirely in stainless steel tanks, thereby preserving the purity of the fruit and the wine's mineral freshness.
Grape varieties
This dry white wine, with an alcohol content of 12.5%, is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Orbois, in accordance with the Cheverny appellation specifications.
