Wine Enthusiast

R.V.

A ripe, full wine with a red jelly aroma and full-bodied black fruits. This is an impressive wine, its ripe berry flavors and texture promising aging. Drink from 2027.

Neal Martin

The 2023 Château de Chantegrive feels a little smudged on the nose, with blackberry and mulberry fruit, a touch of melted tar developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Quite structured and tannic, the wood tannins just intrude on the finish. Give it three years in bottle.

Jeff Leve

Leve Jeff

Leafy herbs, cocoa, mint, forest floor, and earthy cherries. Medium-bodied, fresh, crisp, with an herbal edge to the cherries, along with a touch of spice and tobacco in the finish. This easy-going, vin-de-pleasure will be ready to go release. Drink from 2026-2032.

Falstaff

Garnet with purple reflections, brightening at the rim. Subtle aromas of blackberries, black cherries and some nougat. Medium body, vivid tannins, ripe cherries, drying tannins in the finish, remains somewhat short.

Intense, juicy and chewy raspberry leaf and cherry bud, sinewy with juicy fruits, tobacco and liquorice. 50% new oak for ageing, 45hl/h yields. Hubert de Boüard consultant, Leveque family owners.

Le Figaro Vin

Score: 87–89. Deep and dark, the nose suggests small black berries, cherry and crushed raspberry, along with forest notes. Intense and fresh, the palate is particularly peppery, with a menthol finish. Currently quite marked by oak, though it is a fine oak influence that should settle with time.

Yves Beck

Subtle smoky nuances mingle with notes of red berries, bringing freshness to the bouquet. Well supported by compact tannins, the wine shows character and vigor. It is linear, with good length, and deserves a little time to open up, in order to round out the finish.
