Decanter

Lovely balanced aromas plum, red berry fruit, fresh earth, lead to a palate of minty freshness with just ripe juicy plum and spice: a wine that has elegance and ripeness, medium bodied, medium finish, juiciness but also structured. Tasted twice with similar results. Nice job!

Chocolate, licorice, espresso, flowers, and dark red pit fruits fill the perfume. The palate is silky, fresh, and electric, allowing you to enjoy the lingering fruit with its purity on your palate, all the way through to the vibrant, creamy finish. Drink from 2028-2050. 94-96 Pts

Muscular, tightly knit tannins of good quality, with clear notes of blackcurrant bud and liquorice root, then espresso as it opens. A wine that will take its time, with plenty of concentration and promise beneath slightly sharp acidity. Harvest September 8 to 17. 35% new oak. Yield 22 hl/ha. pH 3.68. François Despagne, 7th generation, his 30th vintage.

The bouquet of Grand Corbin-Despagne reveals itself with exceptional precision, with clear attention paid to a multitude of details and coherence as the guiding principle! Ageing, floral, fruity and spicy nuances, freshness and terroir come together as a serene yet exhilarating whole. On the palate, the wine stands out for the velvety smoothness of its attack and its silky texture. It has body and elegance, supported unfailingly by tannins of rare precision that lend both energy and finesse. Everything is perfectly in place, and the wine asks only to continue on its path toward excellence, so as to position itself with certainty in the “

Beautiful deep red color. Intense, fruity nose—pure, ripe and subtle. A fine touch of Cabernet Franc comes through when the glass is swirled. A hint of vanilla. Delicate on entry and then immediately very flavorful, the wine caresses the palate, with a straight, elongated structure, rising on the finish with very fine tannins and impressive length despite its power. Very good. Blend: 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.58. Yield: 22 hl/ha. Production: 60,000 bottles.

Deep and noble, with a rosemary-spice touch, floral notes, cherries and blackcurrants, underscored by mineral nuances; on the palate it is taut, focused and powerful, yet it remains elegant. The fruit is crisp, countered by perfectly ripe tannins, full of life, with a long, saline finish of dark and red berries. A fresh wine with an impressive presence, never dominant. One of the best Cru Classé!

Description

The elegance of a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion at Château Grand Corbin-Despagne

The estate
Founded in 1812 by Louis Despagne, Château Grand Corbin-Despagne is an illustrious 28.79-hectare estate located in the Bordeaux region. This Grand Cru Classé thrives on the prestigious terroir of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Today, François Despagne, representing the seventh generation, is at the helm of the property. Under his leadership, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, having been certified organic since 2013 and biodynamic since 2024. A true benchmark combining family heritage and sustainable viticulture.

The vineyard
Located in the north of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the border with Pomerol, the vineyard extends over complex soils composed of ancient sands over blue clay and clay-siliceous soils on a subsoil rich in iron pan. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted at a density of 6,000 to 8,000 vines per hectare. The estate practises a respectful viticulture, free of any herbicides, favouring ploughing, cover crops, as well as meticulous manual work such as debudding, leaf thinning and green harvesting.

The vintage
The year 2025 began with complex weather conditions, marked by cool temperatures and rainfall during flowering. The summer then brought a period of intense drought until August. Fortunately, providential rains at the end of August allowed the vines to rehydrate, fostering a significant increase in berry weight and optimal ripening. The harvest then took place under mild and dry weather, offering ideal conditions for picking. This 2025 vintage celebrates François Despagne's 30th harvest and his family's 214th.

Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand with five successive rigorous sortings. Vinification is carried out plot by plot, with macerations at 28°C, accompanied by light pump-overs, rack-and-return and punching down. Aging then takes place in a combination of new barrels (35%), one-wine barrels (35%), 400-litre casks (10%) and amphorae (10%). Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties
This Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2025 is made from a blend of 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
