Decanter

Showing just how close the Figeac plateau is to the St-Emilion/Pomerol borders, here is a Pomerol estate using the same name (owned by Nathalie Despagne family of Grand Corbin Despagne). Tight and concentrated black fruits, strong liquorice and coffee aromatics, excellent fresh lift on the finish with crushed mint notes. Good quality. A yield of 38hl/ha. Certified organic since 2009.

Bright, fresh, juicy black and red fruits dipped in chocolate and washed down with a strong cup of freshly brewed coffee, surrounded by wet earth, is what you’re going to find here. 89-91 pts

Bettane+Desseauve

Caressing on the attack, finely silky through the mid-palate, with a body more slender than spherical, yet very pure aromatically. Subtle and crafted with precision.

Nathalie Despagne delivers a lovely result in this challenging vintage on her home turf. La Rose Figeac is always a delicate wine, never powerful. Nevertheless, I draw your attention to the precision of the execution and the immediate pleasure it can provide. Dark, intense color. Delicate, fruity, subtle, and perfumed nose. From the very first sip, the meticulous texture emerges, with precise aromas on an almost lace-like touch. The whole is highly seductive, with flavor lingering on the finish. Ideal for restaurants or for those who do not wish to wait too long for their bottles. Blend: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.

Description

A balanced, fruity and smooth great red wine from Pomerol

The estate
It was in 1938 that Louis Rapin began to acquire vineyards in the appellations of Montagne Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion including those of Château La Tour Figeac. Following the acquisition of various plots of vines in 1961, Louis Rapin renamed the complex Château La Rose Figeac. This Pomerol estate located on the right bank of Bordeaux has been managed by Nathalie Despagne since 2013. Upon her arrival, Nahtalie Despagne undertook numerous works to allow Château La Rose Figeac to shine in the Pomerol appellation.

The vineyard
Located south-east of Pomerol, the 4.56-hectare vineyard of Château La Rose Figeac is planted in sandy-gravelly soils typical of the appellation. With the plowing, grassing and environmentally friendly vineyards work, the plots of vines, aged 30 years on average, have been cultivated with organic farming, certified Ecocert since 2009.

The winemaking
Manual harvest. Sorted by densimetry. Traditional plot-by-plot vinification. Pour-overs, racking and light punch-downs. Pre-fermentation cold vatting for 3 to 8 days. Thermo-regulated alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in tanks. Native yeasts. Fermentation for 4 weeks.

The ageing
Ageing by parcel. Barrels from 6 different cooperages (50% new oak, 25% oak of one previous wine, 25% oak of two previous 2 wines).

The blend
Merlot (85%), cabernet franc (15%).

The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Château La Rose Figeac 2019 offers a fruity and intense bouquet with notes of red fruits. On the palate, the vintage is structured by smooth tannins, all accompanied by a great freshness. Perfectly balanced, this very beautiful Pomerol can already be appreciated in its youth.
