Château Lanessan 2022

Ripe and open on the nose—expressive scents of dark, sun-kissed fruit. Concentrated on the palate but with such a lovely weight and texture—slightly grippy, slightly chewy, and cool overall. Feels nicely balanced, round, and forward. Calm and fresh. Juicy strawberries with mint and aniseed.

The 2022 Lanessan did not convince out of barrel, but I must compliment this showing. It has a marine-scented bouquet, with hints of brine infusing the black fruit, aromatics that take you to the banks of the Gironde! The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, smooth tannins. Fine depth, quite grippy with impressive sustain on the finish. Long-term potential here. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Cigar box, licorice, espresso, and black currants with a trickle of chocolate define the core of this wine. From there, it gets even better with its fresh, juicy mouthful of blackberries, cocoa dust, and herbs. This is another screaming Left Bank value wine that consumers seeking serious QPR should be all over. Drink from 2026-2045.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Fresh wild red berries, subtle herbal notes, sweet cherries in the background. Medium body, red berry notes, present tannins, leafy finish.

Great quality, with plenty of structure and personality, and it comfortably plays with the big boys in the Médoc. It has settled well with ageing, the tannins still slightly austere but firmly tied to cassis and bilberry fruit, with loads of pencil shavings and liquorice bud. Located on a high-quality river strip of gravel in Cussac Fort Médoc on the outskirts of St Julien. 33% new oak for ageing, Domaines Bouteiller, 45ha. A great value choice, one point upscore.

The twilight’s blue hour unfolds into aromas of black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) and licorice, yet with freshness. The palate still lacks harmony, although some interesting elements keep the substance from feeling too hard.

Very dark color. Intense nose with fruit that is both ripe and fresh. Broad from the attack, ample mid-palate, dynamic, the wine finishes long, with fresh aromatic nuances.

A lovely balance emerges from the very first nose, with the vintage’s evident richness adorned with notes of purple flowers, a hint of licorice, menthol, and a touch of maritime pine. This is a generous wine, unfolding a voluptuous, curvaceous profile, with tender, flavorful fruit. Silky tannins, precision aging. Indulgent.

Lanessan 2022 shows fine definition through precise, fruity notes with aromas of elderberry and eucalyptus. Supported by velvety tannins and a refreshing structure, the wine boasts harmony, elegance, and power. A great success that reflects the dedicated work of the Lanessan teams. Bravo!
