Château Margaux 1975

Displaying considerable amber at the edge, with an old saddle leather, earthy, dusty nose, the 1975 Margaux has always been a disappointing effort. High acidity, austere flavors lacking ripeness and charm, and harsh tannin contribute to the downfall of this mediocre wine. I have had worse bottles than this, so be forewarned.

Light, unripe, tannic and acidic, this rustic, tart, charmless wine was hard, and even hard to taste.

A very difficult vintage and a very difficult bottle. Shows hints of unripe bell pepper with oxidative and also green notes. There is flesh on the palate, but it feels a bit strained and imprecise. It was more of a year for Merlot and thus for the Right Bank.

Never good and never will be. A completely missed vintage. If you absolutely want to look for and buy a wine from the Margaux appellation, then the much cheaper Lascombes is by far a much better recommendation. First notes about ten years ago: unappetizing nose with oyster and brackish-water flavors; rotten, even manure aromas, with the only bright spot being a hint of mint hidden in the background. Peppery, piquant, upfront tannins that combine negatively with the acidity. On the palate, basic aromas of tar and tobacco, with an animal note reminiscent of a horse stable. 94: lightening wine-red. Oaky, unclean nose; brackish-water tone. On the palate wiry, bitter, and unappetizing. It takes some effort to hold it in the mouth for several seconds, which makes spitting it out all the easier. (11/20). 15: bright rust-red. Unappetizing bouquet, rotten beam, dried peat, brackish-water tones, the best part being the defensive, morbid sweetness of death in the background. On the palate the horror continues: rough tannins and the “grand” aromatics of a very old barrique park on the finish. A Premier Cru? By no means here!

Stinky, thin bouquet with oyster, brackish water, mothballs. Slim, smelly palate with a light structure. Short finish. 11/20 over
