Château Sansonnet 2022

Noticeable roasted notes, licorice, herbs, dark chocolate, with sour cherries in the background; on the palate compact and dense, a mouthful of wine, a sweet fruit core, pronounced tannins, strongly extracted, long finish. It has developed well during maturation and can—indeed should—age a bit further.

This is supple and enticing in feel, with a mix of red and black currant fruit that shows nice underlying energy as notes of cedar, singed mesquite and iron play out through the lightly toasted finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2026 through 2036. 1,300 cases made.

Highly charged, verging on potent aromas of concentrated, sun-kissed fruit and aniseed on the nose. Good energy and focus, you can feel the warmth of the vintage and the alcohol pokes through towards the finish, ending with heat and spice, but there's lovely fruit purity and a sense of charm too. It's on the more evocative side despite the tannin finesse and it really leaves a heady impression. Fans of that kind of style will love it.

The 2022 Sansonnet presents a high-toned, extroverted bouquet of peppermint-tinged black fruit. The medium-bodied palate is quite Californian in style, with plush tannins and a fleshy texture. Sweet and sensual, with touches of vanilla on the finish, this delicious wine is just missing a little typicité.

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate rim brightening. Fine nougat, ripe cherries, a touch of plums, sweet tobacco, attractive bouquet. Complex, ripe cherries, good freshness, taut and long-lasting, red berry nuances, mineral, shows very good length, certain ageing potential.

A blend of 92% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Château Sansonnet is gorgeous stuff, offering cassis, crushed stone, graphite, and truffly aromatics. Beautifully pure and medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has integrated acidity, a fresh, focused style, and ripe tannins. Balanced and seamless, it shows the terroir’s freshness and precision while still bringing concentration and texture. Aged for 18 months in 70% new oak barrels, this should drink well for 20+ years. Total production: 1,166 cases.

Very opulent bouquet, dark noble wood, nougat praline and plum liqueur. On the powerful palate with a soft texture, grainy extract, supporting acidity and a muscular body. In the concentrated finish, a basket of blue berries, tarragon and dark minerality. A powerhouse that needs to be tamed.

Glass-staining purple, crushed rocks, excellent quality, black cherry, mouthwatering, profound black fruits, powerful but delicious quality. Be aware that it is on the far side of intense. Heavy clay and dense limestone, 70% new French oak.

Tasted three times with exemplary consistency, here is the cru making the biggest leap forward so far in Saint-Emilion. Black and purple color. Intense, fine, fruity, pure, complex nose. Swirling the glass keeps it at this level. The wine remains delicate, offering hints of flowers, cherry, and vanilla. Delicately fleshy from the attack, particularly aromatic mid-palate, with a velvety body and an elegant carriage, the wine moves slowly, complex, deep, and flavorful, toward a long finish, never losing its softness.
