Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Clos de Tart Grand Cru Monopole 2022
Tasting
Colour
With beautiful depth, it reveals a red hue of great concentration, typical of old vines grown under optimal conditions.
Nose
The bouquet opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant and pomegranate, enhanced by delicate nuances of rose petals and liquorice. With aeration, more complex notes of black cherry, clove, aniseed and subtle earthy touches emerge.
Palate
The attack is silky and dense, supported by firm yet elegant tannins. The palate offers beautiful juiciness and a multi-layered structure combining flavours of white pepper and ripe red berries. Barrel ageing brings subtle notes of vanilla and cedar, leading to a long, persistent finish of great freshness.
Food and wine pairing
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as venison, pheasant, duck or wild boar. It will also enhance traditional dishes such as coq au vin, roast beef with mushrooms, or washed-rind aged cheeses such as Époisses. For a bolder approach, it will perfectly accompany truffle-based dishes or meaty fish served with a creamy sauce.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience of this 2022 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. If enjoyed in its youth, decanting for one hour before serving is advised. This wine, built for the long haul, can rest in the cellar and evolve favourably until around 2048.
The masterful expression of a Grand Cru Monopole from Burgundy
The estate
Founded in 1141 by Cistercian nuns, the Clos de Tart estate is a historic institution. Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, this exceptional vineyard has had only four owners in nearly nine centuries. Since April 2018, it has belonged to the Pinault family through its company Artémis Domaines. Now led by Alessandro Noli, the estate continues its pursuit of excellence, preserving the unique identity of its terroir while relying on environmentally responsible practices to showcase this viticultural jewel.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, the vineyard spans 7.53 hectares in a single block, enclosed by a 1.2-kilometre stone wall. Facing east and southeast on slopes of 10 to 20%, the vines are planted along an unusual north-south axis to limit erosion and maximise sun exposure. The terroir rests on a complex geological mosaic combining crinoidal limestone, white marl and Premeaux limestone. Farmed biodynamically, the estate applies a high planting density to enhance grape concentration.
The vintage
2022 was marked by demanding climatic conditions across Western Europe. However, the region benefited from favourable weather, allowing the growing cycle to proceed smoothly and the berries to reach optimal concentration while maintaining fine balance and refreshing acidity.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis. The grapes are vinified with around 60% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts. A long, gentle maceration of three to four weeks allows for delicate extraction. A late malolactic fermentation is then favoured to bring more body to the wine. Ageing takes place over a period of 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, 60% of which are new, before manual bottling without filtration.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
