The 2019 Barolo Monfalletto (made with organic fruit selection from across the vineyards that surround the winery in La Morra) shows grit, density and rich texture. The house style prizes muscle and brawn in this vintage that lends itself handily to these qualities. Pressed cherry and blackberry cede to licorice, cured tobacco and iron ore. With 53,000 bottles released, this is the estate's most representative Barolo.

A plump red with cherry, raspberry and tar flavors, showing accents of mineral, tobacco and eucalyptus, with a swath of solid tannins guarding the finish. Balanced and long, this should come around soon. Best from 2026 through 2045. 4,000 cases made.

Decanter

Monfalletto is a blend of all the vineyards from the Cordero di Montezemolo estate – over 14 hectares in Barolo. The 2019 is dark in the glass, with a complex nose of dark cherry, blood orange and blood. Dense and concentrated, it shows firm, dusty tannins and is very extracted on the mid palate, supported by fresh fruit and acidity. There's a tight-knit structure here, a bit rustic on the finish most likely due to its youth. Should age well.

Attractive aromas of black cherry with strawberry and hints of vanilla and cedar. Some sandalwood. Medium body. Ultra-fine tannins integrate beautifully into the wine. Plenty of fruit flavors and length. Juicy. Drink in 2026 and onwards.
