Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Moulin-à-Vent "En Mortperay" 2024 from Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting notes

Colour
With a deep ruby red colour, this wine reveals violet hues characteristic of its terroir.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with fresh red fruit aromas such as cherry and raspberry, mingled with floral notes of violet and a subtle mineral touch. With aeration, more complex scents of black pepper, wild herbs, undergrowth and leather delicately emerge.

Palate
The palate offers lovely depth supported by silky, well-integrated tannins. A perfect balance is struck between the freshness of the acidity, the flavours of ripe red fruit and a mineral thread that stretches into a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry such as duck breast with fruit, feathered game, or grilled or braised beef dishes like beef bourguignon. It also goes very well with fine charcuterie platters and mushroom-based dishes.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Moulin-à-Vent "En Mortperay" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. Decanting for one to two hours before serving is advised to allow its aromatic complexity to fully express itself.

The elegance and richness of a great Beaujolais wine

The estate

Founded in 1988 following the union of Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is located in Pommard, France. This estate of around ten hectares spans prestigious Burgundy appellations and, more recently, the Beaujolais. Today, the estate is run by the second generation, Caroline and Mathias Parent. Renowned for their expertise, they carry on the family legacy by combining winemaking traditions with innovative approaches, all while showcasing the authentic and sustainable expression of each terroir.

The vineyard

Acquired in 2017, the plot known as "En Mortperay" spans nearly 3.8 hectares within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Facing south-southeast, the vines grow on granitic soils composed of pink sand and gravel rich in manganese. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of sustainable farming, with green harvesting and soil work that respects the ecosystem.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by complex climatic conditions that led to a yield decrease of around 50% compared to a typical harvest. Despite these weather-related challenges, the rigour applied throughout the growing cycle helped preserve the health and quality of the grapes.

Winemaking and aging

After hand-harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are transported in refrigerated trucks. The winemaking process for the Moulin-à-Vent "En Mortperay" 2024 includes fermentation with a proportion of whole bunches, lasting 8 to 15 days at controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for eight to nine months, half in large wooden foudres and half in oak barrels that have already been used for several wines. The final blend then rests for one month in stainless steel tanks before bottling, sealed with a natural cork stopper and a beeswax capsule.
