Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Domaine Coursodon's 2024 Saint-Joseph "Silice"

Tasting notes

Nose
The bouquet opens with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of gunflint, a true signature of its terroir. It then reveals delicious aromas of yellow apple and lemon flesh, subtly enhanced by delicate notes of cedar.

Palate
The palate opens with an unctuous, creamy attack, offering harmonious volume. It seduces with its perfect balance between well-judged acidity and generous flavours. The remarkably persistent finish leaves a beautiful mineral imprint accompanied by a refreshing smoky touch.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, whether raw oysters, pan-seared scallops or lobster simply seasoned with lemon. It also perfectly complements delicate white fish served with a beurre blanc sauce. More boldly, it enhances pan-seared foie gras paired with sweet and spicy flavours, and is just as enjoyable on its own as an aperitif.

Service and storage

The 2024 "Silice" cuvée will reveal all its aromatic complexity and mineral freshness in its early years. It should be enjoyed until at least 2029.

The mineral elegance of a Saint-Joseph white wine

The estate

Founded in the late nineteenth century by Antonin and Jean-Auguste Coursodon, Domaine Coursodon is a historic and essential figure in the Rhône Valley. Located primarily in the commune of Mauves, this family estate spans 16 hectares of vineyards cultivated on steep slopes. Today, Jérôme Coursodon, representing the fifth generation, leads the estate. He carries on his ancestors' legacy of quality with a philosophy centred on precision, believing that every small detail matters in revealing the authenticity of these great terroirs.

The vineyard

The vines destined for this white wine thrive on the steep slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation, in the historic area between Mauves and Tournon. At least thirty years old, they benefit from an ideal south-southeast exposure for ripening. The terroir is distinguished by soils composed equally of granite and clay. Due to the steep gradient, vine work is carried out entirely by hand, with traditional goblet pruning and a high planting density encouraging deep root growth.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the 2024 "Silice" begins with hand-harvested grapes followed by a rigorous double sorting, both in the vineyard and at the winery. Pneumatic pressing is long and gentle to preserve the integrity of the berries, while must handling is carried out by gravity. After settling, natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18°C. The wine then undergoes complete malolactic fermentation. Aging continues with no contact with wood, in order to preserve the purity of the aromas.
