Tasting
Color
The color reveals a deep and intensely sustained ruby tint, almost opaque.
Nose
Complex and expressive, the nose reveals aromas of fresh black fruit, particularly blackcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by floral notes of violet. Nuances of sweet spices, pepper and stony minerality enrich the bouquet. Upon aeration, smoky and meaty notes gradually reveal themselves.
Palate
The palate presents an ample and powerful structure, with fine and silky tannins. The wine combines depth and finesse, offering a beautiful fruity concentration balanced by an elegant freshness. The finish is very long and persistent.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with noble red meats such as roast beef or herb-crusted lamb chops. It also elegantly accompanies game or complex dishes in sauce.
Service and storage
It is recommended to decant the wine before serving to allow it to open up fully. The ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C. This wine has great aging potential.

A powerful and elegant Hermitage from the Northern Rhône Valley
The property
An iconic name in the Northern Rhône Valley, Maison Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. Renowned oenologist and winemaker Caroline Frey has directed this illustrious house, owned by the Frey family, since 2006. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné watches over a 125-hectare vineyard, distributed across exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
In search of innovation, the Frey family recently inaugurated a new space dedicated to the production of two of its flagship wines: La Chapelle and Chevalier de Stérimberg. Named Domaine de la Chapelle, this new complex, which benefits from a remarkable cellar designed by the illustrious Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, embodies the pursuit of excellence by Caroline Frey and her team in the creation of increasingly refined wines.
The vineyard
The Hermitage vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir on the steep slopes of the hill overlooking the Rhône. The soils are composed of granitic arena, mica schist and gneiss. The southern exposure and unique microclimate favor the optimal ripening of the Syrah.
The vintage
The 2011 vintage in the Northern Rhône Valley is characterized by favorable conditions that allowed for gradual and balanced ripeness. The wines are distinguished by their elegance, freshness and harmonious structure.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out with precision to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the typicity of the terroir. Aging in oak barrels perfects the wine's structure, bringing complexity and aging potential.
