Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Chapelle "Chevalier de Stérimberg" 2024 Domaine de la Chapelle

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a bright, vivid and luminous white hue.

Nose
Remarkably clear, the nose reveals aromas of white peach and stone fruit, enhanced by notes of honeyed flowers, spices and a saline minerality. A subtle reduction, reminiscent of the Burgundian style, preserves all the aromatic purity of the fruit.

Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate stands out for its remarkable precision and purity. Perfectly integrated acidity supports a magnificent balance, leading to a finish of exceptional length.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with creamy pasta dishes, seafood, delicate fish in lemon butter sauce or roasted white meats. It also enhances bolder dishes such as veal sweetbreads or salt cod brandade.

Service and storage

After resting for two to three years in the cellar, La Chapelle "Chevalier de Stérimberg" 2024 will reveal its full potential and will continue to evolve favourably, drinking well until around 2034.

The purity and minerality of a great white Hermitage wine

The estate

While the winegrowing history of these lands dates back to 1834, the Domaine de la Chapelle was officially established as an independent entity in 2023. Located in Tain l'Hermitage, in the Rhône Valley in France, this legendary estate belongs to the Frey family. Now led by Delphine Frey, with the support of patriarch Jean-Jacques Frey, the estate is distinguished by its deep commitment to preserving heritage. Fully certified biodynamic, it houses a state-of-the-art cellar that combines architectural innovation with absolute respect for the terroir.

The vineyard

The estate tends 22 hectares of vines within the prestigious Hermitage appellation. The white grapes come mainly from the lieux-dits Maison Blanche and Les Murets, characterised by loess, sand and limestone soils that naturally regulate water stress. Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, the vineyard also benefits from a rigorous massale selection programme, aimed at preserving the unique genetic heritage of the hillside's oldest vines.

The vintage

2024 proved to be a demanding year in the region, requiring constant attention. Thanks to a meticulous selection of plots and rigorous work in the vineyards, this vintage yielded grapes of remarkable quality, faithfully reflecting the identity of their terroir.

Winemaking and aging

The making of La Chapelle "Chevalier de Stérimberg" 2024 relies on a minimal-intervention approach, favouring gravity flow. The process includes complete malolactic fermentation and aging in small oak barrels. Careful oxygen management in the cellar helps protect the freshness of the juices and enhance the natural expression of the fruit.

Grape varieties

This wine is made from a blend of approximately 50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne.
