Description
An exceptional Saumur-Champigny wine from old vines at Domaine des Closiers
The estate
Acquired in 2019 by Anatole de La Brosse, a former consultant turned oenologist, Domaine des Closiers spans 24 hectares in Parnay in the Loire Valley. The estate benefits from the expertise of Michel Chevré for biodynamics and Nady Foucault for aging. Fifteen hectares are certified organic, planted mainly with Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone soils. This collaboration of Loire Valley vineyard experts favors a biodynamic approach focused on fruit purity.
The vineyard
The Trézellières cuvée comes from the eponymous plot located on the slopes of Saumur-Champigny. The Cabernet Franc vines, averaging 35 years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils overlooking the Loire. This limestone terroir imparts the wine with its characteristic minerality and exceptional aging potential.
Winemaking and aging
Harvested manually, the grapes are carefully sorted in four successive passes. After complete destemming and cooling of the berries, a cold maceration of about one month precedes fermentation. Aging takes place for 24 months in Bordeaux barrels, 30% of which are new, with racking by gravity.
Grape variety
The Domaine des Closiers Trézellières 2021 is 100% Cabernet Franc.
