Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2009 from Domaine des Sénéchaux
Tasting
Appearance
The colour of this white Châteauneuf-du-Pape reveals a pale gold to golden hue, reflecting the full ripeness of the white grape varieties grown on the higher ground of the vineyard.
Nose
The nose is delicate and expressive, combining notes of white flowers and ripe white fruit with a touch of honey, set against a subtly floral and mineral background that is typical of the appellation's white wines.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is full and harmonious, carried by a mineral freshness that complements the white fruit and honey flavours perceived on the nose, leading to an utterly delicate finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white Châteauneuf-du-Pape will elegantly accompany grilled fish or fish served with light sauces, seafood, and white meats in creamy sauces. It also pairs well with fresh or young goat's cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2009 from Domaine des Sénéchaux is ideally enjoyed chilled, between 12 and 14 °C, in order to preserve its full aromatic balance. It can be served as soon as it is opened, without any particular decanting.
A White Châteauneuf-du-Pape Marked by the Floral Freshness of Its Terroir
The Estate
Domaine des Sénéchaux draws its origins from the winemaking history of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, whose current configuration took shape during the 20th century. Located in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, on the Châteauneuf-du-Pape plateau, the estate is today jointly run by the Cazes family, owners since 2006, and the Pradon family, co-owners since 2018. Renowned for its old Grenache vines and the emblematic Bois Sénéchaux plot, the estate combines Bordeaux expertise with Rhône typicity.
The Vineyard
The white grape varieties of Domaine des Sénéchaux are planted on a small part of the vineyard, at the highest point of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where the relative altitude and better ventilation help preserve the freshness of the grapes. These plots benefit from the same typical soils of rolled pebbles and red clay that characterise the estate's entire terroir, giving the white wines an identity that is both aromatic and mineral.
The Vintage
The 2009 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was broadly distinguished by hot, dry conditions, conducive to full ripening of the grapes. The white grape plots, located on the higher ground of the vineyard, nevertheless retained a freshness that favoured the production of a balanced and aromatic wine.
Grape Varieties
This white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made from the white grape varieties traditionally permitted in the appellation, including Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Picpoul and Picardan.
