The Authentic Expression of Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune by Domaine du Château de Meursault

The Estate

Founded in the eleventh century by the Duke of Burgundy, Domaine du Château de Meursault is a historic institution located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, France. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate today spans sixty-seven hectares across multiple appellations. Under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the estate has completed a full conversion to organic farming. With its vast underground Cistercian cellars, the estate is committed to producing wines that reflect the diversity of their terroirs through an environmentally respectful approach.

The Vineyard

The one-hectare plot from which this wine originates is located mid-slope, within the climat Les Grèves, in the Beaune Premier Cru appellation. East-facing, the vines benefit from optimal morning sunlight. The soil, which is particularly well-drained, is composed of clay-limestone mixed with sandy soils and limestone chailles. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with controlled yields to promote grape concentration.

The Vintage

Autumn and winter were marked by abundant rainfall, replenishing water reserves, followed by sharp temperature variations in January. Flowering took place under cool, unstable weather, leading to coulure and millerandage. Summer conditions then allowed for optimal véraison, producing healthy, well-aerated berries.

Winemaking and Aging

After manual harvesting and double sorting, the grapes are destemmed. Vinification of the Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves Les Trois Journaux" 2024 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting fifteen to eighteen days. Alcoholic fermentation follows, with regular punching down and pumping over. The wine is then aged for sixteen to eighteen months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, before pneumatic pressing and final blending.
