Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2022 from Domaine du Château de Meursault

Tasting

Appearance

The wine reveals a deep garnet-red hue, enhanced by delicate purple highlights.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet opens on intense notes of macerated black fruits, such as blackcurrant and blackberry, harmoniously intertwined with hints of cherry and redcurrant. With aeration, subtle toasted and vanilla nuances emerge, underscored by a fine minerality.

Palate

Ample and generous, the palate reveals a rich texture carried by tannins that are both imposing and silky. The balance is remarkable thanks to a beautiful natural acidity, leading to a persistent finish of great freshness.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats such as a ribeye steak or a rib of beef, refined dishes like tournedos Rossini, as well as feathered game or a hare terrine. It also perfectly accompanies mature cheeses with character, such as Époisses or Saint-Nectaire.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2022 at a temperature between 16 and 17°C, taking care to decant it 30 to 60 minutes beforehand. Endowed with a solid structure, this wine can rest in the cellar and will evolve magnificently until around 2037.

The powerful and balanced expression of a Corton Grand Cru

The estate

The history of Domaine du Château de Meursault began in the 11th century with the concession of the Moulin Foulot fiefdom. Located in the heart of Burgundy, this iconic estate today watches over a vast 67-hectare vineyard. Taken over in late 2012 by the Halley family, the estate combines respect for tradition with a contemporary vision. Fully certified organic since 2022, it stands out for its innovative agroecological practices, thereby preserving the authentic expression of its exceptional terroirs for future generations.

The vineyard

The 1.5-hectare plot from which this wine originates is located on the historic Climat of Les Maréchaudes, on the hill of Corton. Facing east-southeast and planted mid-slope, the vines benefit from ideal morning sunshine. They flourish on clay-limestone soils that promote excellent drainage and a nuanced expression of the terroir. The whole is managed according to the strict principles of organic farming, within a preserved ecosystem.

The vintage

The 2022 year was marked by particularly favourable weather conditions. Spring, as well as the summer season, proved very dry and warm. This sunny climate allowed the berries to reach a perfect state of health and optimal ripeness at harvest time.

Winemaking and aging

After complete destemming, the berries undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration of 15 to 18 days to gently extract the aromas. Alcoholic fermentation then extends over 5 to 6 days. The aging of the Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2022 lasts 16 months in French oak barrels, split between 40% new barrels, 30% one-wine barrels and 30% two-wine barrels, thus refining the structure without masking the fruit.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
