Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2024 Domaine du Château de Meursault

Tasting notes

Colour
Clear and bright, the colour reveals a pale gold hue enhanced by delicate green tints, typical of its youth.

Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of white fruits, such as peach, accompanied by citrus notes. A mineral thread marked by touches of flint and chalk intertwines with subtle woody, vanilla and spicy nuances from the ageing process.

Palate
Full-bodied and fleshy, the palate seduces with its lovely concentration and vibrant mineral freshness. The acidity, characteristic of great limestone terroirs, carries the wine through to a persistent and harmonious finish.

Food and wine pairing

This great white wine pairs beautifully with white fish in beurre blanc, oysters with sabayon or crayfish à la nage. It will also enhance poultry in cream sauce or a soft, washed-rind cheese, such as Mont d'Or.

Service and storage

With excellent ageing potential, this Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2024 can be cellared and will evolve favourably until around 2039.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 14%.

The minerality and complexity of a great white Corton wine

The estate

Founded in the 11th century, the Domaine du Château de Meursault stands as a historic figure of Burgundy. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of 95 hectares spread across nearly 110 plots. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the domaine has undergone a spectacular modernisation under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the entire vineyard has been certified organic since the 2022 vintage, reflecting the estate's determination to produce wines that express the purity of their terroirs.

The vineyard

The Corton Grand Cru plot cultivated by the estate within the Vergennes climat represents a tiny surface area of 18.20 ares. Ideally situated on the mid-slope, it benefits from an east to south-east exposure that favours optimal berry ripening. This terroir rests on highly calcareous soils, made up of Jurassic scree, marl and gravel on the surface, giving the wine its mineral signature.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by notable climatic events affecting the entire Burgundian production. The growing season allowed for berries with a fine balance between ripeness and acidity, before giving way to a particularly rainy autumn and winter accompanied by sharp temperature fluctuations.

Winemaking and ageing

After harvesting and a rigorous manual sorting, the berries of this Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2024 are pressed and then settled. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels over roughly a fortnight. The wine is then aged on the lees in barrels (35% new oak) for 15 to 18 months. During the first six months of this ageing process, regular lees stirring is carried out every two weeks to bring richness and aromatic complexity.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
