A Mercurey Village "Vieilles Vignes" marked by elegance and finesse
The estate
Domaine Faiveley is a family-owned wine house founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy, by Pierre Faiveley. Handed down through seven generations, the estate now extends over approximately 120 hectares across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, including several grands crus and monopoles. It is now run by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, who have committed the entire vineyard to a conversion to organic farming.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from the Mercurey vineyard, in the Côte Chalonnaise, where Domaine Faiveley farms some twenty plots spread over approximately 27 hectares, mostly planted on limestone soils. The vines, planted in 1962, 1978 and 1981, give this collection of plots a high average age, justifying the "old vines" designation.
Vinification and ageing
The Mercurey Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, of which approximately 10% are new oak, selected for their fine grain and moderate toasting. The wines then rest in the estate's cellars, at a naturally constant temperature and humidity, which favours gradual, even ageing.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy's red wines.
