Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Macherelles" 2023 Domaine Guy Amiot et Fils
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a straw-yellow hue with light green highlights, offering beautiful clarity and plenty of brightness.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white fruit such as fresh pear, mingled with citrus touches reminiscent of lemon and grapefruit zest. With aeration, nuances of almond, hazelnut and honey emerge, underpinned by a mineral backbone evoking flint.
Palate
The attack is generous and unctuous. The palate unfolds fruity, honeyed flavours, perfectly balanced by a fresh acidity with menthol accents. The lingering finish stands out for its pronounced mineral and stony imprint.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with poultry such as chicken or turkey, grilled fish served with elaborate sauces featuring Asian influences, or veal dishes in a creamy sauce.
Service and storage
With its fine structure, this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Macherelles" 2023 can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2033.
Other characteristics
This vintage has an alcohol content of 13.5%.
The elegance and mineral precision of a Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune
The estate
Founded in 1920 by Arsène Amiot, Domaine Guy Amiot et Fils is a historic name in the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy, France. Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, this family estate spans nearly twelve hectares of vines cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. Today, the fourth generation, represented by brothers Thierry and Fabrice Amiot, runs the estate. They carry on a century-old expertise while incorporating modern techniques, producing wines renowned for their remarkable fidelity to terroir.
The vineyard
The plot from which this wine originates covers half a hectare within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. Facing east to capture the morning sun, the vines, around thirty-five years old, thrive on the mid-slope. The terroir is characterised by a layer of iron-oxide-rich red clay resting on a deep limestone base, providing ideal conditions for viticulture with controlled yields.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with a cool, wet spring, which encouraged strong fungal pressure and a few localised hailstorms. Fortunately, weather conditions improved markedly in August, allowing the growing cycle to conclude under better auspices. Rigorous sorting during the harvest proved decisive in isolating healthy berries and ensuring the quality of the crop.
Winemaking and aging
Following manual harvesting and meticulous sorting, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a complete spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Macherelles" 2023 is first aged in oak barrels (25% new) for twelve months. The wine then rests for a further six months in inert tanks to refine the blend before bottling.
