Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 Domaine Henri Boillot
Tasting
Colour
The glass reveals a delicate pale gold hue, enhanced by subtle green highlights typical of its youth.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet reveals elegant scents of white flowers and candied citrus. The whole is enriched by hints of toasted hazelnuts and a mineral thread reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
The attack offers a lovely mineral tension that evolves into an ample, generous texture. Perfectly balanced acidity brings vibrant freshness, guiding the palate toward an exceptionally persistent finish, marked by touches of toasted almond, white fruit and spiced citrus.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine beautifully complements noble dishes such as roasted lobster, scallop carpaccio or turbot with mousseline sauce. It also pairs wonderfully with refined poultry in cream and mushroom sauce, veal fillet with chanterelles, as well as well-aged hard cheeses such as an old Comté or a Beaufort.
Service and Storage
For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served between 12 and 13°C. In its youth, decanting for one to two hours is recommended to release all its aromas. With exceptional aging potential, this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 will ideally rest for four to five years in the cellar before being enjoyed, and can evolve beautifully until around 2038.
The Pure Expression of a Great Burgundy Terroir by Domaine Henri Boillot
The Estate
Founded in 1885 by the grandfather of the current owner, Domaine Henri Boillot is a benchmark name in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, this nineteen-hectare family estate is now run by Henri Boillot, who is dedicated to crafting the white wines, supported by his son Guillaume for the reds. A pioneer of sustainable farming since the 1990s, the estate favours herbicide-free soil work and limited yields. This minimal-intervention philosophy allows the authenticity of each terroir to shine through, building the international reputation of these remarkably precise and elegant cuvées.
The Vineyard
This Corton-Charlemagne comes from vines thriving on the prestigious slopes of the Corton hill, nestled between the villages of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. This exceptional terroir stands out for its unique limestone geology, giving the grapes an unmatched mineral structure and tension. The estate practises demanding viticulture here, with exclusively manual and late harvesting to ensure perfect phenolic ripeness.
The Vintage
The year 2023 benefited from particularly favourable weather conditions in the region. This favourable climate allowed the growing cycle to unfold under the best possible conditions, bringing the berries to optimal ripeness while preserving a lovely freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 relies on a minimalist approach aimed at respecting the natural balance of the musts. Aging takes place over a period of around twelve months in French oak barrels. To preserve the wine's delicacy and aromatic purity, the estate uses a significant proportion of once-used barrels that have previously held white wines, thereby limiting the woody imprint.
Grape Variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
