Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2024 from Domaine Matrot
Tasting notes
Appearance
This wine reveals a golden colour with remarkable brilliance.
Nose
The bouquet is deep and charming, revealing aromas of well-ripened yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and vine peach. It is enriched with notes of white flowers, acacia honey and a delicate brioche touch, complemented by nuances of fresh hazelnut and damp chalk.
Palate
The attack is ample, offering a superb balance between roundness and richness. The mid-palate brings a lovely tension leading to a long, mineral and tightly focused finish, marked by fine, mouth-watering bitterness and a rich texture.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with refined, creamy cuisine. It will beautifully complement veal sweetbreads with morels, roasted turbot with beurre blanc, or white meats in sauce. It also pairs very well with shellfish, oily fish and soft-ripened cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. Decanting it while young can help release its full aromatic complexity.
The elegance of a great Meursault from Domaine Matrot in Burgundy
The estate
Located in the heart of Burgundy, this family estate was truly founded in 1914 by Joseph Matrot and his wife Marguerite. Today, it is sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot, representing the sixth generation, who passionately run Domaine Matrot. The vineyard spans 24.25 hectares across prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer of sustainable farming and later organic viticulture, the estate is renowned for producing pure, precise wines that faithfully reflect the richness of their terroirs of origin.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the largest climat classified as Premier Cru within the Meursault appellation. The estate cultivates four distinct plots here, 70% of which are located in the highly regarded "Charmes Dessus" sector. The vines, around thirty years old, thrive on rich soils composed of clay, limestone pebbles and marl at the foot of the slope. The entire vineyard is managed according to organic farming principles, with exclusively hand-harvested grapes picked based on rigorous monitoring of ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2024 begins with whole-cluster pressing using a pneumatic press. After twenty-four hours of settling, the musts are transferred into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts with strict temperature control, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on its lees for 15 months in oak barrels aged between one and three years. Finally, it undergoes a 3-month refining period in vat before bottling, with fining if necessary and lenticular filtration.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
