Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Juliénas "Les Amourettes" 2024 from Domaine Mont Bessay
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a ruby-red to garnet hue, distinguished by its clarity and lovely brilliance.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with lively, juicy notes of fresh red fruit such as raspberry, cherry and redcurrant. It then gains depth with hints of fresh herbs and a delicate mineral thread.
Palate
Charming and easy-drinking, the palate offers lovely fruit-driven substance supported by silky, exceptionally smooth tannins. A pleasant freshness, typical of its high-altitude terroir, carries the wine through to a beautifully honest, subtly mineral finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with fine charcuterie, terrines or pâté en croûte. It also goes very well with herb-roasted poultry, regional dishes such as sausage baked in brioche, as well as grilled oily fish or summer salads.
Serving and Cellaring
Designed for early drinking, Juliénas "Les Amourettes" 2024 is best enjoyed in its youth to make the most of its vibrant fruit, although it does offer some potential for short-term development. It is best served slightly chilled, at a temperature of 13–15°C, and should be opened one to two hours before tasting.
The Elegance and Indulgence of a Great Juliénas Wine
The Estate
Founded in 2021, Domaine Mont Bessay is located in Beaujolais, on the border with Burgundy. The estate is run by Philippe Pascal and oenologist Guillaume Marko, who are equal partners. Drawing on their experience in Burgundy, they apply a rigorous plot-by-plot approach to reveal the region's great terroirs. The estate stands out for its commitment to the environment from the very outset, with certified organic and biodynamic viticulture.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Juliénas come mainly from young vines planted on the En Bessay lieu-dit. This steep, south- to south-east-facing slope rises to between 360 and 420 metres above sea level. The complex terroir is made up of decomposed pink granite, granitic schist, sandstone and blue stone, offering the vines an environment ideally suited to producing fresh, mineral wines. The vineyard benefits from meticulous soil cultivation and massal selection to encourage plant diversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for Juliénas "Les Amourettes" 2024 are harvested by hand, allowing for careful sorting of the berries. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts, using gentle extractions to preserve the finesse of the aromas. A variable proportion of whole bunches is used. Ageing is deliberately short and focused on preserving the fruit, in order to offer an approachable, indulgent wine that can be enjoyed from a young age.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from the Gamay grape variety.
