Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 from Domaine Sylvain Pataille
Serving and cellaring
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 from Domaine Sylvain Pataille can be cellared until around 2028, a period during which it should continue to express its full potential.
A white Marsannay wine shaped by Aligoté and the biodynamic approach of Domaine Sylvain Pataille
The estate
Founded in 1999 in Marsannay-la-Côte with just one hectare of vines, Domaine Sylvain Pataille now extends over approximately 15 hectares in Burgundy. Led by Sylvain Pataille, supported by his brother Laurent and his wife Maryse, the estate has established itself as a pioneer in the rehabilitation of the Aligoté grape variety. The estate farms its vineyard biodynamically, with the soils worked by horse, reflecting a deep respect for the terroir.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from the Marsannay appellation, in Burgundy, and originates from two complementary lieux-dits. 60% of the grapes come from the lieu-dit "Champ Forey", with its chalky, gravelly soils, while 40% come from the lieu-dit "Les Auvonnes", on stony marls and clays. These latter parcels include old vines planted in 1955 and 1961 by the winemaker's grandfather, with an average age of around 50 years.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage saw the hottest summer ever recorded in the region. However, cool nights combined with good water reserves helped preserve the freshness and acidity of the grapes despite the intense summer heat.
Vinification and ageing
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 is made using direct pressing, without skin maceration, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. The ageing, lasting 12 months, is divided between one third in stainless steel tanks and two thirds in oak barrels aged 7 to 8 years.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Aligoté.
