The finesse and expression of a Vin de France crafted by Viret
The estate
Viret, whose approach and philosophy transcend traditional methods of viticulture, was founded by Philippe Viret and his father Alain. The estate stands out for its commitment to cosmoculture, a unique form of viticulture that combines knowledge of the earth's energy fields, known as telluric currents, with the ancient wisdom of the Mayan, Incan and Egyptian cultures.
The impressive Viret building, constructed in the late 1990s, is both imposing and magnificent. The enormous wall stones, extracted from a local quarry – the same source the Romans used to build the famous Pont du Gard –, are arranged in the same configuration as when they were excavated.
The vineyard
The vineyard extends over 30 hectares, forming part of a 54-hectare estate, and is planted mainly with Grenache, a variety known for its robustness and its ability to thrive in dry, stony soils. The estate grows nearly ten other local varieties, including Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, Viognier, Carignan, Syrah and Mourvèdre, each contributing its own complexity and character to the estate's portfolio of wines.
Winemaking and ageing
Produced as a Vin de France, this Dolia 1 Paradis 2010 benefits from one year of vinification in amphora (known as Dolia in Antiquity), followed by two years of bottle ageing before release.
Blend
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre.
